I haven't mentioned my school, nor teachers. I also haven't said any practice is better than any other.

Nor is it my intention to ever bring up my school or my teachers here.

I just felt compelled to clear up some misconceptions on meditation.

Perhaps...

Perhaps not.....

Yes, you are correct that if we were teaching people to.meditate, that was our goal, then we would have other styles to offer...

Have you forgotten, that multiple people here agree with your statement that notcall meditation is the same?

Then let me reiterate...

We realize not all meditation is the same....

I am really at my wits end with you...

You seem to think we are not listening, and we cannot have a conversation about meditation without you chiming in....

When I block you, please know that it is not because I have lost my temper, or any such thing...

You are not offering anything constructive... And yes, you are confusing people...

People like myself, who when I was learning, and trying to figure it out, would have been confused by your vague words and repetitious posts...

You are polite, but, for the good of TOTJO, and its members, I just have this feeling you need to go...

Sorry...:(

Good. I sincerely hope that they do. That is what we all need to be doing. To really think about things.

Why do I do the things I do?

What is it I want out of life?

What do I hope to accomplish with my time here on earth?

What's my purpose?

These are things I think all people should reflect upon, every day.

Anyway, dude, he's not talking about your type of meditation. He is extremely specific on what he means by meditation. Meditation is concentration. That's it.

What you're speaking of, from the realm of one of the ONLY schools that still does this (10 people, yes?), is deeper than "pure" meditation. This is energy work.

He's not talking about energy work, yeah?

Adder wrote: The video is not a lecture on the content of his path, its a discussion about one way to consider what meditation is and how to orient oneself to beginning practise. Not to mention I thought he was using the concept of mind to represent whatever faculties might constitute being/awareness and in this regard his talk was interesting and showed great outreach to different people. I'm not sure how you could argue with what he said in the context he was saying it..... but if split up line into line and criticized them in isolation for the purposes of making a re-entrance and pushing your own path, with your name spelled backwards, perhaps consider an intro post and creating a journal instead!!???

I haven't mentioned anything about my own school, nor have I said any path is better than another.

I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with Conner's school of meditation, and I think his teacher is excellent at conveying ideas.

I only disagreed mainly with the position that all forms of meditation do the same thing, or lead to the same results.

I have no idea why pointing out the obvious should generate such an over reaction from you guys, but whatever.

See you guys later.

No problem, Afira. Check out "Turning your mind into an Ally", by the man in the video. It's a whole book going even more in depth on the subject.

Try the App Insight timer. I use it to time my meditation. Work does not always permit long meditations. With this app you can go 5, 10 , 15 or 60 minutes. You are timed with Tibetan bowls.

I believe this app is for you Connor Lidell.

Hi Connor,

I like this app because you can preset your meditation time. Like the video says, you can meditate for 5,10 or 30 minutes. It doesn't matter, what matters is that meditation is familiar.

So when you take a break in the day, you can preset a 5 minute meditation using the sound of Tibetan bowls.

I thought you would enjoy it.

I have this one too, I particularly like that you can select different bowls, but more importantly, it has a journal function that pops up at the end of your meditation so you can keep a record of your practice.

I think the thing with this video is that it doesn't require you to dedicate your life to it. It really is great for beginners to follow his advice when they are just getting started. And then maybe they like that and keep going with it, or maybe they decide they want something different and find something else. But his ideas are so simple you don't have to give up everything and devote a few years to living in the mountains to decide what you want. Giving up 10 minutes a day for a year or two isn't a big deal if you decide late it was a waste of time or that something else could help you more. That's why it's perfect for beginners.

Agreed.

I go to a Shambhala Buddhist temple, and we have 3 year olds who try it for 30 seconds. And, they can do it! It's really incredible to watch them sit there and enjoy the present.
