Sunday Sermons.... Why?
Why do we have Sunday Sermons in Jediism? I mean, why not Wednesday, or Thursday, or...? Is there a reason for it?

Given the sense of the sacredness of all moments, what makes Sunday our day of predilection for sermons ?
Then again, why not try to have one every day ?

Sunday is as good as any day, I guess!
Perhaps the fact that it's the start of a new week, and a weekend day (therefore people might be more likely to be able to get online and post their sermon), played parts in its selection.

April 13th- JEDIISM RITE RECOLLECTION DAY
The day, the 13th. 13 is considered taboo or unlucky by almost every superstitious person that lives and was by any superstitious person that has become one with the Force.
\"Superstition (Latin superstitio, literally \"standing over\"; derived perhaps from standing in awe;used in Latin as a unreasonable or excessive belief in fear or magic, especially foreign or fantastical ideas, and thus came to mean a \"cult\" in the Roman empire)is a belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge. The word is often used pejoratively to refer to supposedly irrational beliefs of others, and its precise meaning is therefore subjective. It is commonly applied to beliefs and practices surrounding luck, prophecy and spiritual beings, particularly the irrational belief that future events can be influenced or foretold by specific, unrelated behaviors or occurrences..
To medieval scholars the word was applied to and beliefs outside of or in opposition to Christianity; today it is applied to conceptions without foundation in, or in contravention of, scientific and logical knowledge.
Many extant superstitions are said to have originated during the plagues that swept through Europe. According to legend, during the time of a plague, Saint Gregory I the Great ordered that people say \"God bless you\" when somebody sneezed, to prevent the spread of the disease.\"
These superstitions were fueled by primitive religions. Something that the Jediism Rite is definitely NOT. There are no positive holidays on the 13th of any month. We do not follow any other religion, therefore we should not fear their taboos. 13 demonstrates our individuality.

I believe, giving sermon at Sundays, maybe affected by Christianity, not saying it's bad, but I'm rather saying, if there is no particular reasons, changing it to some other day would be 'another step to the goal' which is described in the text above.
Following Christianity... while ...

As most of us left Christianity, and Sunday was our traditional day of worship...
It sorta evolved that way....
Like our feast days... The sudden change, say to a Tuesday, is uncomfortable....
You want as many people as possible to be available, so, as most folks already have Sunday available for worship, it only makes sense....
Its why Sunday mass has more attendees than Wednesday mass ....
But, Wednesday mass is available for those who can't attend Sunday mass... Or want to attend another...
If you don't make it convenient for the majority, then what's the point?
If people want to hear the message, they will make/take the time...
On walk-about...

I just wanted to know why, I don't want to change it!
I'll perhaps wait to see if anyone (perhaps older members) have anything to add, and just for Connor to know...
'Excuse' comes after decision is made, while 'Reason' comes before.

These are pretty much the same thing, are they not? Are you accusing me of making excuses too?Connor Lidell wrote: People don't have stuff to do on Sundays...
We're just offering that idea as a possible idea of something that may well have influenced the decision to have them on Sundays.
Therefore we are offering possible 'reasons', not 'excuses'

No, I'm not saying you are giving excuses, just referencing to yourself, and saying you are guessing councilor.
I'm just waiting for Gm Mark or Br.John or another old member.... If there is a problem, I can ask via PM.

Explain how not having anything to do on a Sunday means it's an excuse...

Based on definition I gave on excuse and reason, it came after decision is made.

'Excuse' implies that we're trying to justify a bad thing...

But, I'm gonna for a second....
'Excuse' comes after decision is made, while 'Reason' comes before.
This is opinion and perspective...
As is "revenge or justice"....
Its "my reason", whether I explain it to you before or after....
If you agree with the answer, it is a valid reason (excuse can be used here as well, yes?)...
If you don't, its a poor excuse (reason can be used here as well, right)....
Aren't words fun?

Technically we can have/ submit a sermon any day of the week...we've had Thursday sermons in the past....one of the main reasons it's on Sunday is because most of the world is one of the big 3 religions(christian, jewish, islam) and those three usually hold a Sunday service, so most people don't work on Sunday and us having the sermon on Sunday enables more members to make it since they usually have the day off from their normal jobs any way...
