I know that we have a clergy, but maybe it is a good idea to have a Jedi high council comprised of 12 knights, senior knights and masters or even apprentices and members. So, each year in january we have an election, or The Grand Master and the clergy choose 12 people, including the grand master himself, and the 12 Jedi do not have to take the job, they can apply, or they can drop out and be replaced if they want. Just an idea, but a good one, I'll say.
The setup we have now is regulated in the bylaws of TOTJO. The process only allows for qualified members who have experience here to lead. While "democracy" seems like a good concept, rule of law (republic) ultimately does more good than rule by mob. Self-determination in this sense means any member here has the means to suggest changes like this, is there a specific position you wish to fill or change?
Right now, the council seems like a self-regulating mechanism since as there is need positions are created or condensed. While in a larger scale governing body, this might be succeptible to corruption, the relatively low power and complete vestment of financial responsibility in Br. John makes this incredibly unlikely.
Tbh, your idea is obviously not fully fleshed out, but I am interested in the direction you're taking this.

Every member is as valuable as a knight! Every knight is also as valuable as a member!
The problem thingy with election, is that each member of the council preforms a specific task to oversee an area of the Temple. They are to be compared with specialists in their own area, in order to be able to represent each area as good as possible. And to safeguard its integrity, rules, quality and quantity.. What eventually makes the council a works like a council, they know what they say? How would this system be, if council members would change every year, how can a temple area be safeguarded then?
Instead of letting a small group making decisions/advice, each Jedi can share their voice!

If there was one change I would even remotely suggest is would be nice if there was quarterly or monthly reports of topics of discussions and things, not even too many if any details but just to know what discussions were going on. Of course once you do that the inquisitive would want to know what were in the discussions and those who follow the reports what the results were etc and then again defeating the purpose of the council in its current state again....oh the paradox!

The Council is a Supreme Court providing 'a sense of direction without inhibiting the latitude and trust each Master, Knight and member deserves'. We're not here to legislate every member's action. The Council's scope is far less than a government's, there is less of a need for representative democracy.

None of us are irreplaceable, and should there be a call for my removal, I would step down...
As was pointed out, we all run specific departments, and you just don't just replace your officers unless they are derelict in their duty, or they step down... Deriliction of duty is a broad term, and it takes A LOT to have that term met... :pinch:
If anyone, and I do mean anyone, has a complaint about any Councillor, please contact a Knight (Councillors are Knights too) and explain your dilemma...
As for submitting ideas, there is now the Council Secretary, (Adder) who makes sure all things are brought to our attention, as well as anyone can submit ideas to any Council Member...
IN the beginning, Councillors were promoted on their level of activity... As Akkarin said, we now have a greater level of activity in all areas...
Ask anyone who has reached the 'leadership' position, of any organization, and there is a lot to be said for NOT being in charge, lol...

Whenever I have this discussion with someone 'higher up', the company gets mentioned, but I sort of fail to see why the two should interact particularly in terms of leadership if the board and the council aren't the same people (apart from John).
If someone could enlighten me I'd be very grateful.

TOTJO is a 'corporation', legally registered, (you know that, this is for new readers) in the state of Texas....
A corporation is also an organisation, they need not be exclusive... Is that how?
Are you thinking that there is two governing bodies?
Anything "organized" can be an "organization"....
TOTJO's not-for-profit status allows us to collect donations tax free...
A for-profit corporation (or organization, lol) pays taxes that their lawyers cant get them out of, hahaha...
All Council Members are on the Board of Directors for legal purposes, yes...
Did I answer you?

Edan wrote: I got the impression some time back that the Council were supposed to be the same people as the Board of Directors

It would appear that Edan's initial impression was correct then? Are there any non-council members that are on the board?
Silas Mercury wrote: Uh oh, i feel an uprising on the way ....
I doubt it. Edan and Jestor are actually quite good friends (as are most active members here). Jestor was just an honest answer to an honest question me thinks

I think this is a link to my search resutls for our Board of Directors...
If that fails, try: https://mycpa.cpa.state.tx.us/coa/
and entity name is temple of the jedi order....
And, I was a bit surprised as Damion Storm, a former Council Member is still listed, as is Proteus.... I had forgotten that... lol...
Proteus is our SysAdmin, and with access to Council at the last filing, was included... Damion will be removed at the next filing...

I dont understand how you are confused?
I was confused because I was under the impression that the current Council did not reflect the board of directors.. I was obviously wrong (though apparently partly right
