Very impressive a build so far. :cheer: I currently know too little about custom sabers to get involved in something of this magnitude. I wasn't aware that the various companies parts were compatible with each other.

as long as they're mhs parts they're interchangeable...and now saberforge is making their hilts and electronics modular...which means more options for customizability...

well the parts have been ordered, now just waiting for them to ship....due to tcss being closed for a few weeks i've had to change the build specs...instead of using the nano biscotte soundcard i'll be using the obsidian 3.0 from ultrasabers....it has more customizability than the nano and a stronger speaker output...at twice the price of the nano....also had to switch battery setup from a single 18650 li ion to dual 14500 li ions....same power output different size/setup....in 2-3 weeks at most silver fang will be complete....

I'd like to learn more of the art of creating a custom saber, but at the moment I'm just focused on getting some WD-40 for the threads on my pommel because Ultrasabers didn't grease it in any way.

once the parts arrive i'll be using this thread as a sort of tutorial....

my old ultrasaber was never oiled....6years and going and it still opens just fine...the body for my new build wasn't oiled either and it doesn't stick....but i'm constantly opening both sabers.....worst case scenario i'll use some oil from my gun cleaning kit....

well after a few days of wiring and rewiring and research and trying 4 different diagrams i've finally got most of the saber up and running...i'm waiting on a buckpuck to stabilize the power to the led....due to the custom saber shop being temporarily closed i had to get my sound card from ultrasabers (which means the obsidian 3.0 board at twice the cost of the nano biscotte which is what i wanted to use) the obsidian is a bit more complex to wire up than the nb, and it uses more power...i've already began customizing the sound fonts (it doesn't support multiple banks just one really large bank with 12 versions of each sound effect, ie 12 power up, 12 power down, 12 idle, 12 clash, 12 swing, etc...)

once it's finished i'll put up pics...

I wouldn't even know where to begin, beyond hilt design. Digital electronics might as well be sorcery... Actually no - I think I'd have a more intuitive grasp of sorcery than the workings of circuits and their components. I'm more intuitive than analytical, and I would definitely chalk electronics up to the analytical side of the brain.

I thought the same thing but truthfully its not that bad once you get into it. One step at a time, otherwise you will get overwhelmed. ;)

I suppose I need a manual, or the steps all come at me at once hehe.

i'm starting to lose confidence in the capabilities of the obsidian 3.0 soundboard....after numerous rewires, and the addition of a buckpuck i have a hilt that powers up and has sound, but the illuminated a/v switch does not light up, and the led still will not light up....after doing several days of research it appears that the soundboard restricts voltage and therefor does not allow enough power through to power the switch and the led (which is 12 watts by itself)....if the nano biscotte boards didn't sell out so fast each time they get them in stock i'd already have put one in since it doesn't restrict voltage....the only option i have at the moment is to order an illuminated latching switch(instead of the momentary style i have) and to order another led with lower power requirements....my head hurts from all this wiring.....

on a side note this last time i rewired and assembled everything the blasted board didn't want to power on....i was incredibly agitated as i had everything working last night (including the led) before installing....i threw the saber (breaking the battery holder, it still works and i have several spares) after wards i picked it up and on a whim pushed the button...and it powered on, sound only though...oh well...the waiting and working continues....

I think I'll probably end up waiting for SaberForge's adaptive custom saber parts if I get anything "custom". Sounds less masochistic. Incidentally, I don't plan to ever buy anything from UltraSabers again. I've just heard too many nightmare scenarios.

i've actually never had any issues with ultrasabers products....the soundboard issues is simply a matter of compatibility (i tried to match an ultrasabers soundboard to a saberforge led, which would have worked if i had used the 6watt led instead of the 12watt)....i'm going to install my spare soundboard into the grab bag saber since the parts are compatible

i plan on building something using saberforge's asp (adaptive saber parts) in the future....that was always the issue i had with their sabers (no way to fully customize)....i'm whimsical....i like to change things up on occasion...

I've actually put together a little wish list for my saber, rather then build a new one, just going to tweak/change the shape and continue to "evolve" mine to kind of reflect my personal growth. Not a finalized list but was looking at getting the following list:

I have noticed that my UltraSaber tends to heat up rather quickly. Since I still know so little, I wasn't sure if this was normal or not but I don't want to tempt fate by leaving it on for extended periods of time (more than ten minutes).
