The recent Internet outage problem

I just found out what the cause of the site access problem was from yesterday. Apparently, the TOTJO site is hosted by GoDaddy, which experienced router failure which may have been the result of hacking. Someone on Twitter called "AnonymousOwn3r" took credit for it, but GoDaddy denies being hacked. Many other sites went down as well, mostly those of small and medium-sized businesses. Basically all the GoDaddy customers.
So that explains why I couldn't do a DNS lookup on templeofthejediorder.org, because GoDaddy is the DNS provider here. Blah. But GoDaddy says they have put measures in place to ensure that this does not happen again. Whatever that means.
Just FYI, to anyone interested.

That explains a lot, I thought it was just my service provider acting up.

That is interesting. I'm in school currently studying to be some form of IT professional. This sort of stuff is good to know.
Its too bad that people target such sites and providers for DOS attacks. Good thing they got things back up and running fairly quickly though. Every minute of downtime can cost some companies significant amounts of money.
Thanks for the information brother!

The server for the site is not with GoDaddy but the domain is registered there and uses it's DNS.

As much as we want to overinflate this story.. it was actually an internl employee who took Go Daddy offline for a few...

the problem wasn't DNS lookup.

(because I don't use DNS lookup on totjo and I experienced the issue) (also I took the site offline myself yesterday)

Ah, most likely a DDoS attack. Possibly. I have been DoSed before, it's a very minor hack, and very easy to fix. A server like GoDaddy would barely have a scratch on it. Unless more than one person DDoSed the server, tons of websites going down is highly unlikely. (unless the website is exceeding their space limit, but I don't think this website has done that yet.)

If anything does get DDoSed, or DoSed, just unplug your router, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. This will get rid of all the packets the attacker sent to your router to shut you down. And restoring your internet. Restarting your computer is sometimes necessary, run a virus scan, and continue what you were doing. If AnynonmousOwner is who he says he is, he apparently is the best hacker in the world. But anyone can DDoS. It's incredibly simple and probaly just another fool trying to act powerful. So if you computer lags alot, or just completely loses connection, do what i said.

that'd make no difference to where our server is hosted, especially seeing as we can't just unplug the router...
