The Daily Gem

Hello Fellow Jedi,

We have a Clergy, we have sermons, we have Temple Members, Knights and Masters and we also have the Force.

What we don't have is a "Daily Gem."

This is basically a daily devotional, a thought or a prayer that sums up a small message in 3 sentences or less (it doesn't HAVE to be 3 sentences or less, but the shorter the better and if it can be related to Jediism). Some examples are:

"Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." -- Jesus

"All wrong-doing arises because of mind. If mind is transformed can wrong-doing remain?" -- The Buddha

"Living Force, give us strength to face our trials and compassion for our enemies" -- Anonymous

I will start posting a Daily Gem starting Jan 1st, 2012. This isn't meant to be a Learn_To_Know endeavor though. I WELCOME anyone that wants to submit a thought, prayer or proverb for the Daily Gem to PM me and I will post the message for you on the Daily Gem. It can be your own original thought, or you can send me something that you liked that you found from another source.

This is OUR "Daily Gem" for this Temple so it will be as successful as we make it!

I like your idea.. Almost like something new to think/meditate about.. A theme for each day.. I wish we had a quotation roulette wheel. That way it would be totally random, and possibly all the more relevant.

Although perhaps not daily (I haven't checked dates) there are often inspirational posts on the Temple's Facebook page.

This idea is a really nice one though .

I watch the "line's" to see how well people pay attention and actually like the comments on fb..

As a side note, your promotion announcement got more likes and comments, than anything!!

And, that, announcements and inspiration, to me is what that page is for....

(And for people to find us....)

I thought about the random quote generators. It would definitely make it easier.

But on the other hand, I like the idea of our own Jedi submitting their "gems." It seems like it would be more personable and give us a view into the thinking and help us learn more about what makes our fellow Jedi tick.

Kind of like this:

"Quote............
................
.............." -- Some proverb

as opposed to this:

"Quote..........
................
................" -- Some proverb (submitted by Viskhard)

I think the latter quote is more personable and we get a small window into what inspires Viskhard. Or what the poster Viskhard thinks about.

I do like the idea of the Quote Generator and who knows, that may end up being a permanent solution, but for a while at least, I'd like to post what inspires our Temple Members.

I thought about the random quote generators. It would definitely make it easier.

That is a sort of feature that we could maybe get ren to put onto our homepage.

Just a little highlighted section that shows inspirational quotes at the start of each day (server standard time).

If it searched for a random quote from a database I would imagine that it would be possible to input our own ones.

I like the user generated that LTK is suggesting...

I don't need sport quotes, or the like... I know it can be fine tuned...

But what quotes does Akkarin, or Jestor, or Planet find inspirational ....

Sometimes I find inspirational quotes to be slightly taken out of context. Often times it is within a book that a lot of these quotations appear. I feel rarely do people just dispense inspirational wisdom like a fortune cookie, bit by bit. It would be nice to know the source and context of the quote as well. That way it might mean more.. As for personal tastes, I like to find inspiration in just about anything!
