Here are things that I (individually) feel would be acceptable for the COJ to Trademark:

'May the Force Bid you well'
'Holyhead Church of Jediism'
'Church of Jediism' + J-Cross Symbol (not the term individually)

Please let me know your thoughts. I remind you that the first is in fact 'May the Force *BID YOU WELL*', not the standard 'May the Force be with you' - I have not seen anyone use the former other than myself prior to the writing of this post.

It is to be noted that the second and third are not purely 'Church of Jediism' on their own, but have conditions, ie. 'Holyhead' Church of Jediism or the term 'Church of Jediism' in use with our J-Cross symbol used on documents and our website.

This is not a place for scrutinising the Church, accusing it or suggesting actions. This is purely mine own opinion thread as I am interested to see what phrases y'all would agree would be acceptable for the COJ to trademark. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to comment with them!

May the Force bid you well,

BF.

No offense... but other than ones own art \"logo,symbol,w/e\" I don't see trademarks needed in any of this

This world is to stuck on cash grabs, greed, and ignorance... in my hopes I look to see an major overhaul of the trademark & copyright in my lifetime (and watching what the net has done to traditional media, it may happen)

Anyways, to each their own, but in my view of jediism, trademarks and copyrights are against my views of sharing and faith

The inclusion of our symbol was a suggestion from John Phelan, and I personally like it as it would mean we would be satisfied, having the mark of 'Church of Jediism' and y'all would presumably be happy as we could only claim ownership of the mark if the J-cross symbol was with it the phrase.

Again, this is only my idea and so does not reflect or indicate anything relating to the Church's ideas or plans for Trademarks. I am not here to represent the Church in this thread and will refuse to do so (in this thread).

If you want to trademark the stylised \"J\", go ahead. But any attempt to include the word \"Jediism\" is a dangerous move, IMHO. I really don't see the need for any trademarks when it comes to religion because to place restrictions is to go against the free-flowing nature of the Force.

Trademarking 'Church of Jediism' with the J-Cross would secure our position as an organisation, thus preventing any other organisation from springing up, using our symbol and claiming to be the same organisation. It would be a step of prevention rather than anything else.

How about the other marks I suggested?

I believed the crossed J is already an ancient symbol

Trademark 'Holyhead' blah blah if you feel its necessary - but given holyhead is a small area i see no reason for that either.

Church of Jediism is still very controlling - why shouldnt (as an example) someone create a Canadian Church Of Jediism?

If you feel the need to tm anything make it Holyhead Church of Jediism but personally, if i were an outsider looking in - id read it as an organisation who is very insecure and frankly wasting money.

Do as you will with YOUR brand of jediism but have the common decency and courtesy to allows others to do the same with their own, without having to double check legal stuff.

Should you not be having this discussion with your various councils rather than us?

The chances of some group popping up and claiming to be CoJ is an unrealistic possibility, and a poor excuse for trying to cover up CoJ's greed. Why does it need to be trademarked? We are here to learn and grow, not covet and control. I'm not looking to debate this with you, because frankly I don't time to exchange plattitudes with you, just thought i'd drop in.

I agree with Kana, why are you worried about others that may try to copy you and affect your image when you and your people already know what you are about? Any attempt to actually copy you and perhaps ruin your image, shouldn't be of any importance. Anyone who is actually interested in and probing your organization and others, should already be on a high level of discrimination and discernment to compare you to the others and rationally decide which to turn to for what they are looking for. On the other hand, why would you be worried about someone creating another Church of Jediism or using your specific words if they are attempting to do the same thing you are doing, or at least not attempting to ruin your image? These sorts of organizations or whatever you wish to call them, should not be competitive or even made \"official.\" If you really feel the need to distinguish yourself from all others in such a manner, I feel as though there could be other motives behind this, but I do acknowledge you are simply brainstorming and looking at things from every angle and perhaps do find it a legitimate neccesity to trademark these things.
