Action. We speak of it. We study our respective duties, disciplines, etc to prepare for it. However, I have been looking through the records. We have very little in respect to what we DO. I have spent my time at work and with my students in the community open as Jediists. We endure a little ridicule when people ask us about ourselves. However, our actions speak for us. My apprentice is a humble man, but his actions have shown bravery and kindness that is rare in this world. His dedication to his family, his country and to his own ideals has been outstanding. He can’t quote the 16 teachings yet, but he lives them. Myself I try to keep to my scouting promise of at least 1 good deed per day that I expect nothing back from other than the feeling of serving.
We have trained, all of us, to serve. In the end we are just servants. That is our cause, to better ourselves to better the world around us. Right now, I think we have a great program to be scholarly with our studies of the force and the world. With the addition that Brother Mark has added to the curriculum, I am very confident we are in good hands to learn.
Now we need to do. I propose we begin to accrue ideas and implement them to begin to integrate the Jediists into society as we are meant to be. Other sites have locations of their members. This is something I would like to integrate as well. Community service, state fairs, medical assistance services (ie: red cross) all these are examples of where we can commune and use our talents together.
This will allow members to actually meet other like themselves. To serve the community. It will also allow for the name of Jediists to be seen as something more than fans. It will be a continuing public display of our dedication.
So brothers and sisters, let us still learn, but now we should also act.
Also I’m submitting, with approval of the council, that a committee be formed to investigate plausibility of and oversee larger events.

red cross, storm/tsunami relief efforts, feed the children, care packages for u.s. soldiers overseas...these are great things to become involved with on a grand scale, on a smaller scale: habitat for humanity, helping the homeless, and a vast majority of other local charities...it would be interesting to see a large scale jedi involvement in these sort of things.

as for me i frequently give to local charities, help homeless people, on several occassions in my own neighborhood i have went head to head against the neo nazi's(a bit brash and foolish to do so alone, especially since they've killed several people in the neighborhood, but i reaaaaally don't like them or their ideals...in fact few things aggitate me more then skinheads),

it will take largescale effort and time to bring jediism to the forefront, it would also require someone with great organizational skills to put together and pull off...

serving from the shadows can only do so much for so long....eventually the shadow must receed....

Strangely enough, I'm having to take on another job to supplement my therapy work and pay for my Shiatsu training and I've been looking into becoming a Neighbourhood Warden - basically someone who patrols the streets (but without being a policeman), looking out for vulnerable residents, inspiring people into community work, providing support, preventing anti-social behaviour, etc. So it seems the Force wants me to become more active in the role that you mention!

Anything I can do to help? I know I'm in the UK which may make it difficult (especially given the opinion of Jediism in this country due to the Holyhead church's antics) but I'm willing to do whatever is needed to improve things.

Considering the workload that I've taken on here and with my personal work, I don't have much time to help organise but I'm willing to be a \"foot-soldier\"!

I've always approved of a Jedi Community Service Event. I've also approved of a Community Service Section to be created in our forums.

Thank you for your insights, Master Zanthan Storm. I enjoyed reading over your original post.

With that being said, I'd like to remind all of you that I posted my suggestion (to create a community service section) in our forums - in the "This is your temple" forum thread. I explained my idea in full there. To my disappointment, however, the idea was basically ignored and immediately dismissed...

Here's what I can do, now. I can go ahead and find my original post - about community service. Once I've found it, I'll post it here.

But please don't ignore it this time, okay? I'm not blaming anyone, individually, but I don't want to be spurned like the last time I gave my pretty good idea...

(This is actually an entirely different suggestion than what is currently being discussed in this thread. However, the original intent of this thread was to allow any suggestions to be made. So here goes...)

I think it would be a great idea to add a Community Service section to the forums. As Jedi, we all have a responsibility to maintain the community and serve others, even in the most basic ways. Even though I'm not sure how others would view this idea, I personally don't think anyone would disagree with the appropriateness and naturally good intent behind a community service forum section in our Jedi website.

Furthermore, in this section, we could post any community service opportunities located either locally or across the internet. For example, we could post when there would be a local trash clean up going on, or if there is an important website offering to donate to "save the pandas" (or something like that) based on the number of clicks we could all provide.

We could post with a standard format - to make sure the information for all service opportunities will be crystal-clear.

For example: Title: (Title of the Project)- (Location, like "Honolulu, HI")
Body: Title (re pasted)
Date of event
Description of the event/service responsibilities
Contact
