the pirate bay....one of my favorite torrent sites...sadly what they speak of has begun in the u.s. as well. isohunt, my other favorite torrent site, has already had to change format entirely.

this is what happens when you get greedy politicians and greedy special interest groups throwing money at the politicians to get the bills they want pushed through.

next time you get a chance look at some of the laws and bills being passed....do you recall seeing them on the ballot? do you recall voting on them?....i sure don't, and yet this happens many times a day every day. money makes the world go 'round...it's the golden rule: he who has the gold makes the rules...

personally as a creative person, i would be thrilled if millions of people were trying to get my creations as long as they give credit and don't try to claim it as their own...of course i'm not driven by money either....what happened to the days when doctors became doctors to help people and not to get rich, when artists created things to share with the people and not to profit....

This is disturbing but not unexpected. Unfortunately, the Labout government here in the UK has done more than any other government to erode our basic rights and civil liberties. All the more surprising considering its working-class and progressive roots (Labour is almost the equivalent of the U.S. Democrats). If you want to be shocked even further, watch the video \"Taking Liberties\" on YouTube:

There is an increasing backlash against such totalitarian rule and a greater call for proportional representation within our electoral system. This would provide a fairer platform to a wider range of views, including those of the Liberal Democrats and Green Party (both of whom opposed the Digital Economy Act). However, the two main parties would lose some of their power and so are loathe to pass such a measure.

It is a sad fact of today's capitalist-controlled society that large corporations (the ones with the huge sums of money at their disposal) are influencing governmental policy to the detriment of the public. But then I'm a Mutualist Anarchist at heart so I would say that! :)

As a further example: my home town has a small airport serving mainly continental and small freight flights. A large haulage firm (Stobarts) bought the airport and wanted to extend the runways and dramatically increase the flights (particularly at night), affecting the lives of thousands of people living in the flight path. Our electoral system means that we vote for representatives on the council and they make the decisions. However, we the people have no way of influencing such decisions. Consequently the decision to extend the airport was made by just SEVEN councillors, all of whom have friendly contact with the owner of the airport. Democracy applied in the wrong way is not democracy at all!

Maybe all we can do is to make our voices known in peaceful protest and allow our positivity to be carried forth. This bill has worrying consequences and I am reminded of the attempts by the U.S. Government to install the \"clipper chip\" into commuinications networks a few years ago. It seems that we must be mindful of our government's actions as well as our own...

Just encrypt everything. Start a torrent/magnet site on freenet. Then they won't be able to prove anything, unless the seize the hardware (and that would require a warrant).

What these idiots don't realise is that civilians have access to high grade encryption, and WILL PIRATE. Without the internet, CDs and tapes people wouldn't copy. The music industry wouldn't be selling. In fact, all these large corporations wouldn't exist in the first place as artists would have to just play live all the time. Now people want and will pirate and will use high grade encryption.

But that's a problem. You see, there are real criminals on the internet too. Who definitely want to use encryption too. You know what it's like to look for a needle in a haystack... How are they going to catch a few megabytes of child porn in the middle of Terabytes of encrypted Avatar and Michael Jackson? they won't. This law is either counter-productive and hms gvt is too thick to realise it OR, nowadays, what once was consumer rights has become a bigger deal than pedophiles.

Convictions are more dangerous foes of truth than lies.
