Ok - time for me to put my grumpy head on (its never off) but Ive been asked to post this - it isnt a 'telling' off or directed at anyone in particular - just a general reminder of protocol for this site.

Point 1 - Journals - Journals are strictly for jedi training - rthe only person who is to post in a journal belonging to an apprentice or initiate - is the thread creator themselves. Knights & Masters are the exception to this and we have good reason for not posting within such journals too often - the whole point of said journals is to enable potential teaching Masters (be they Knights or Masters) to look at prospective apprentices work and make informed and frankly important decisions. They are not a source of 'socialising' as such - you can do that in chat or off topic elsewhere.

Point 2 - Name changes - this IS temple RULE and its there for good reasons - basically - just because you can doesnt mean you should do it - much like drinking acid - we dont allow names including the titles of 'Lord' or 'Master' etc etc etc - even ranked Jedi dont have the title as their username - your rank (if applicable) is in your avatar box and can also be added to your sig along with anything else you desire (on contacting an admin to do it for you due to site intricacies)

Your username can be changed - but it must be for a good reason - not 'cos I feel like it' - if a username change is required (and generally this is for exceptional occasions such as promotion to Knighthood) - please contact a senior site admin for a request or permission - if you do have aname change - please post this information in the general section of the forum.

We have hundreds of members - your average admin cannot be expected to remember who is who if they keep changing names - it causes confusion and disassociation with members and their journals. If you have changed your name recently without prior consent - please change it back to the one you created your account with - then seek advise/permission from an admin etc

We wont however grant permission on a weekly basis - pick a name and keep to it (please)

Points 3 + 4 - Links & Posting in appropriate threads/sections - Ok I hold my paw up to doing this once recently (Palpatine said id get a cookie if I did) - OK - again - we have guidelines.

As said before a journal is for jedi training

If you want to post a funny video - use the appropriate section (Shottle Bop) - want to post a music item - find the 'music with jedi meaning' thread - found a good source of information or an ebook - post it in an appropriate place. Also this applies to the blogs/announcement section on the left - the site is big enough and has most if not all eventualities covered - ie an appropriate corner for everything - if your unsure about the suitability of a post for the site (this includes links) then please ask an admin/moderator - if you wish to post a link to your own site or a sales site - again - get permission from an admin (senior admins in this case) or follow the procedure that is laid out.

We would rather be asked where etc than have to move posts and or copy n paste - this may sound harsh but the site is big and somewhat messy at the best of times (another project in progress behind the scenes)

In the immortal words of our founder 'membership is a privilege not a right' or in the not so immortal words of grump Kana - 'If you dont like the way we do things here - you dont have to stay'

Lecture/rant over - if any other members have requests (namely admins/mods but whoever really) regarding TOTJO 'Netiquette' (how people are posting and behaving) then either contact me via pm (or email) or any other staff members

Even though you claim this thread is for no one in particular I know that the comments about journals is at least partially aimed in my direction :P .

I admit that I got carried away and posted a LOT of irelevant stuff. But in the early days of my journal I had posted links to Jedi-related stuff like samurai information and was encouraged to continue by a Knight- I won't say which one here... If I was told to stop immediately I would've been happy to comply.

We're not picking on anyone and not blaming anyone. The post is because these things WERE NOT made clear to the members and we're only giving some guidelines for the future.

Participation is greatly appreciated and nobody needs to feel bad or apologize for anything.

The admins apologize for not being clear about some things in the first place.

:)

I fessed up to sinning myself - and I genuinely meant it isnt/wasnt targeting any individuals - so as blunt as this next line is going to be -

take it as you will

But also as I said - it was posted on behalf of the entire senior management team of totjo

a simple reminder to please give a title and or name etc to any lonks you post - just to clue us in to what the link is for.

Also - a polite request to do ask asked in some of the threads/topics marked with 'PLEASE DO NOT REPLY' at the foot of them.

The site is undergoing some upgrades and as a result the bulk of 'admins' have temporarily lost the tools - there are 3 active admin accounts remaining.

If a topic is marked 'do not reply' please have the common courtesy to do as requested - when the addons etc are sorted - the admins will be reinstated and the topics - relocked. the reason for unlocking is for ease of use of the poster who DOES have the right and permissions to post (and normally lock etc the thread) in the main case this is Fr.Jon

any posts not belonging will simply be deleted - you have been warned - I suggest if you wish to contribute to such threads - then send a pm to Fr.Jon - he will post the info if he feels its relevant and no doubt acknowledge the source - this would be the case of the thread(s) remained locked.

Not to sound rude or callus, but if admins find a post is there a place where they can put it?

I mean accidents do tend to happen from time to time. ;)

if its in regards to Fr.Jons posts (im assuming your talking specifically about these things) then I suggest copy n paste and pm to Fr.Jon and allow him to decide etc.

The problem with 'don not post' is if we let one slip - it becomes a torrent

As I said - if you wish to submit to a 'Do Not Post' submit it to Fr.Jon in the first instance.

For the most part - posts are left alone or moved and as said elsewhere - if one is unsure of the suitability of a post (ie the content could be deemed offensive) you can always ask an admin first.

This is a family forum - ie no age restrictions therefore common sense pretty much says it all - if something is borderline (ie a joke or video) either give it a title with a warning or ask an admin.

Before anyone asks about setting up age restricted areas - the practicalities of age verification over the tinterweb make it impractical.

Yes that was what I was referring to. I have sent him things already was mostly talking about those that might overlook that DO NOT REPLY aspect accidently.

Thanks.
