Right from the start I can tell that the person who wrote this didnt get his/her facts straight. Its ture that the Jedi could have been sent to \"meddle\" but its also ture that they were there to negotiate.Qui Gon Jin is a Consular wich is metn to handle thing like that. Also if you watch the movie again they attacked them.Im sure if the negotiations tuck place things would have been diffrent.Look at the movie again and youll see that they were attacked just becasue a droid said that they were Jedi.So they did nothing wrong they were attacked first and im sure they had no intention of stating a fight. Both Naboo and the Trade federation knew that there would be ambassadors arriving. Why would it matter if they were Jedi or not.

well true they were attacked but if you send Jedi to do negotiations is it really fair the Jedi could just mind trick the federation into negotiating and make them do what they deemed necessary and profitable for their allegiances. So i think it had alot to do with them being Jedi a weak minded person cant negotiate with a Jedi.

NOt really mind trick only work on the weak minded.
I have to admit this person did do a very good job in pointing out allot of flaws and in some cases s/he is right and makes a good point. How ever there are allot of times where s/he points some thing out with out giving all the facts.Id have to analyze ever thing thats writen down to give you the other side of the story.AH BOY!

Agreement in most facts. But the Jedi did become complacent. the moment you accept complacency, you forget other things. they allowed themselves to believe that the Sith was destroyed long ago. They were not ready to deal with that aspect until it was too late. One must always be aware of the past present and future. If not then we have learned nothing. A plant can grow in the rainforest with no sunlight, but when it does get the sunlight, it can become a most fascinating bloom.

That's a fascinating article. I agree that nature must be in balance and when it's not it will find a way to fix itself.
The Jedi Council had become arrogant and distant from the very people that they claimed to be protecters of. If you don't understand the peoples' sufferings, how can you truly help them?
And their policy on only accepting extremely young pupils was ridiculous. If you only take those that you can manipulate into one particular mindset, and only allow them certain life experiences, you lose diversity. Yes, you would have a group that's 'better' trained in the Jedi council ways, but you give up the differences that make a group stronger. No wonder they couldn't see the forest through the trees!

I don't think Sidious used Mind Trick on the federation. he only took advantage of a situation and made it work for him, by showing another path.

Sidious did not use mind tricks on anyone, he played to basic human desires, preyed on weaknesses not necessarily the weak minded, you dont hink Yoda would fall to a mind trick do you?
The Clone army will only ever follow the master of the council, which is why palpatine played to this position from the start, he know about the clone army in production if you watch the movies again and listen to the dialogue.
The Jedi wer too busy with the politics before them to notice the dark shadow, years of no shadow made the Jedi blind to it, again, another carefully crafted scheme by the Sith Lord.
As for the jedi being fussy about age of new recruits, I always felt that to be a flaw or even narrow minded, surely it is better to train a force user properly than have them roaming lose doing whatever unsupervised?
An interesting piece even with its faults.
