8-Year Old Birthday Party Ideas? was created by
The child is interested in a Jedi themed event for her upcoming birthday.
For example: the local parks & rec has their "fencing" team collaborating on a "Jedi Training Camp" (guess they trade their swords for lightsabers).
Other than trying to get someone like that (fencing, kendo, aikido types) to come give a demo to her and her friends...any other ideas on something clever for a group of 8 year olds (co-ed, mixed)?

As per our conversation:
Making a boffer sword. I advise using wooden dowl rods as children generally don't put enough force in to break wood that fast.

guided meditation session perhaps? Keep the kids quiet for a while? ;P
Or, if they insist on having fun, perhaps buy some of them really cheap hand fans from a dollar store and some balloons. Use it as a party game, using the fans as "force push" to keep the balloons up in the air... or if you have enough, try to have them score goals against each other by having them put the balloon in buckets at either end of the feild using nothing but thier "force push"? hehehe. Just fun ideas.

Dollar store lightsabers that can be taken home! You could have them be knighted and upon being knighted, they get their own sabers to take home!
Cool party favors that come cheap!

Last time I tried to raise a child army, I got in *so much* trouble.
From what I know of eight year olds, if there is running around, sugar, and video games, the party is a success.
I vote for jedi robes (Maybe get brown bath robes? Kids don't care, and bath robes might actually be useful after the party and not just go into the toy box of cheap plastic crap with the other single-use costumes - and it makes every shower time fun for the rest of the....until the next superhero movie comes out and they don't want to be Jedi any more)
Dart guns (uhh...laser blasters? they probably have star wars ones, but again - not sure that 8 year olds care?)
Lego Stars wars on the...game....machine...thing....most kids have them?
star wars cake, and....Episode one (it's got a kid in it?) or those clone wars cartoons?

Are you looking for a boy or a girl idea? For an 8 year old girl, you can take a look at Anyah's little farm party. This
birthday party idea
is great for girls. The theme of this party was "Farm". You can serve farm style food in this birthday party.

Pin the lightsaber on the Jedi?
Treasure hunt for a lightsaber (or whatever)?
Make paper airplanes as a group, representing the space ship of their choice, and have a game of seeing which flies furthest?
Making paper plate masks of their favorite character?
