A Jedi Retreat/Temple

When I see more people actually commit to Jedi Gatherings and Offline Chapters that are already in use, practice and growing.
When I don't have to pull out teeth and toe nails to get you people to pay $150 for Lodging and Food. I'll gladly take the next step to something more physical. Until then......I'll see you in Ohio

If we were to have a physical Temple. It would simply need to be somewhere quiet we could hone in on the Force more. Ultimately that's what makes us Jedi, so that's what any retreat or Temple should've based around!
Or, to splash a little 'Rogue One' into the mix:
I am one with the Force and the Force is with me. I am not afraid; all is as the Force wills it.

Whoa... it does look nice, but that's a bit pricey.Adder wrote: It was for sale, sitting on 8 hectares of land.... only $3 million AUD :pinch:
Well... in a way, it would make for good training. Till the soil, pump the water, sow the seeds, reap the harvest. But on the other hand, if you screw up, you starve.JamesSand wrote:
It would be self sustaining meaning it would generate its own food, water, and electricity.
Why? Is plumbed water not good for Jedi?
Are we not supporting markets and farmers now?
Still... the flipside is the struggle to afford the food and water.
Self-sustaining electricity would be good though. Solar panels or wind generator, very Jedi if you ask me.
But yeah, it's difficult coming up with a good temple or retreat. Being a global community, it's difficult for many of us to travel halfway around the globe (in any direction) just to do things we can do at home. Getting to meet everyone and commune is a bonus, of course, and would probably help a lot of training, but... the travel costs, the costs of upkeep... one would hope that the people living on-site could take care of anything that goes wrong, because mechanics, plumbers, pest control, etc. would be even more difficult.
Also I'd hope there'd be some kind of humane alternative to pesticides or something. Just... y'know... respect for life, or something... I dunno. If it was in Australia I don't suppose nature would much respect our lives.

Practicality
I got a fully stocked medical caninent and am able to do my own sick call for my family and friends. Old army medic
*You would be surprised , at how often my family has gone to the hospital in a 4 year span.
Can goods go far
We buy extra all the time . Saving a few cans of this n that for future keep is wise. We look at the ant. He is no fool. We often give extra along to our friends and family. Tact and love with a bit of mindfulness always finds open hearts. My front room is my wife and my library. Many have come over borrowed a book or two. Over a few cups of coffe, tea, always ready here , we have had heart to hearts worth only the purest of gold. Real people. Real problems, jobs hearts , chooses , ...
I'm not a smart man but I say that qualifies where I am as ... A Temple... A mission, a retreat , come by get on some sticks Mario kart? A Temple can be where the "temple" idea is fanned. Our Temples ... Some of them are real. Actual. Those take time n effort. So worth it!

That's an excellent idea. There's actually a place I like to go that's about a 20 minute drive from me. It's in the back of a state park, and not many people go there. The path goes back along this creek, and at one part there's a place where I can go down and there's a little island of rocks in the middle of the stream. I like to sit there, with water flowing literally all around me. It's my favorite spot. I've been known to refer to it as "my temple".
Unfortunately, it's only 17 degrees here today, so that doesn't work at the moment.

But if you have a sacred place and use it, something eventually will happen." (JC)

Quickly and off hand to something someone said around page three - In the mountains of Austria there is a small cabin that (in German) has words to the effect of "Hunters Fisherman and other liars gather here"
Now, I'm aware that you can buy these words in any $2 shop to hang on your wall, and I have no idea who said them first, but I still kind of like them. Whether they speak to the tenets of Jediism is debatable, but I would consider having them on the front door
Anison mentioned in a recent post that there could be 1 of 2 ways a physical temple could come to pass - crowdfunding, or a single wealthy benefactor.
Now, my understanding of Jedi is that, much like the Pirate Lords, they are all flat broke
and, whilst there are a few members who may have the capital, or already own large tracts of land, what they do is their business and I'm not willing to make any assumptions on their behalf.
HAVING SAID ALL THAT: I am a keen capitalist, and always looking for ways to make more money for my daily money swim.
So I am interested in discussing how a Jedi temple would be financially viable, taking existing laws at face value.
I have *some* knowledge of my local laws as far as rates, stamp duties, tax deductions etc are concerned (I've never bought a church before, so I have no idea about these laws as they apply to charity type organisations, which I might be able to find out with some research and phone calls - on the other hand as far as I know, TotJO has no legal existence in Australia, so it's probably irrelevant)
I'm not too interested in "We could grow Jedi-Corn and sell it at markets!" or "Jedi-Spun Robe online sales", so much as actual math and consideration - (for example) Corn is a very water dependent crop, not to mention the need for customers to actually buy the corn, trucks to transport it, and there's nothing in the doctrine about Jedi being any good at agricultural pursuits anyway.
What would it actually take, one way or another, to make a physical location that can sustain itself financially (another example- if you want it to sustain itself electronically, you'll want $20,000(AUD) for a semi decent offgrid solar system)
Let's assume we have no capital, and all moneys need to be borrowed - so not only does such a venture need to be able to pay it's way going forward, it'll need to have additional revenue to pay off the debt and interest!
Sometime after breakfast I'll actually start making a spreadsheet, but I'm here for ideas on how to make it work (if I had all the good ideas myself I'd be retired by now!)
Edit: I'm actually generally of the opinion that a physical jedi temple is not particularly necessary, so you're preaching to the choir if you want to go down that route - I'm not asking if we *should* have a temple - just that, if we assume the premise that we do want/need one - how to make it work, short of winning the lottery)

It's a meeting place, the financials for a cafe are fairly straight forward, you can put them pretty much anywhere.
The Managers/Staff don't necessarily have to be fans of Jediism.
That's more or less as far as I got, but at face value it seems sort of sensible - international Jedi Coffee franchise - instant accessible temples the world over
I had a bit of a look for Charity/ not-for-profit Cafes, and found https://lentilasanything.com/
a bit interesting.
(Suggesting we use https://www.deathwishcoffee.com/ for our warm brews...)

I really like the idea of something like this. I was visiting a friend recently and stumbled across a 'Pay As You Feel' restaurant in their town that was really nice!

*Waves hand* You will surrender your franchise. You don't need proof of purchase. You want to go home and rethink your life.
EDIT: Also, I believe we should rename it to Deathstarbucks
