Why considered a "parody"?

I never really understood why some would think Jediism is a satirical religion or a parody religion. It never made sense to me. What is it making fun of? What is it a parody of and how is it satirical? It's a faith that takes the philosophy and ideas from the movies, and really, it's a good belief system.

But it's just weird to lump it with other satirical religions. The only other religion I would think would actually be a "parody" is Pasatafarianism. The name itself mimics Rastafari, has a deity made up, poking fun at other religions, ect. Jediism never sounded like a parody. It's not like people believe that Yoda or Obi Wan is real. They look at the Jedi faith and belief systems and practice it. Doesn't seem like they are making fun of anything. Even Wikipedia lists it as a satirical religion, but then, Wikipedia doesn't have the most accurate information.

Don't think too much of it.

The people who think it is a parody religion have not studied it from the inside in any seriousness. They have only looked at the most public and loud sources for Jediism (think Daniel Jones and co.), and have made their assumptions based on that.

We are slowly making our mark on the media. We have multiple interviews per year. We're doing probably more than we need to.

I just checked the wiki article and saw no mention of satire. I mean the article is more history then actual beliefs but no calling Jediism satire. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jediism (though it does mention the temple lol)

The reason some people call it satire is that they link it to the people that put Jedi on the census as a joke as well as the parody religions like Church of the flying spaghetti monster.

Actually if you see under "categories" it will say "Religious Parodies and Satires."

Jedi generally take their faith more seriously than Rastafarians, who seem to do the whole thing as a joke. It makes more sense for Rastafarianism to be considered a parody than Jediism.

Pastafarians are funny, but I hate how they are often mistaken for Rastafarian. I would probably be Rasta, but I'm white. Haile Selassie is one of my favorite people who ever lived. I wouldn't say I worship him, but I deeply admire the man, the legend.

That wikipedia category says its for religions "which, at least for some followers, is more a joke than a religion. Other followers believe that there is real truth hidden behind the jokes."

While things like the census phenomena were in jest, it could be said they are not really part of the religion of Jediism... so it seems a bit misplaced IMO. They even have them listed as seperate things, with its own page . So considering all religions could probably fit into that description, I wonder do any Jedi practitioners actually do it as a joke? I mean some of the more fictional orientated folk might seem foolish, but they think they are being sincere to certain elements.... AFAIK

I'd agree the Jediism article is in the wrong spot.

Anyone is free to edit Wikipedia, right? Why doesn't someone from the Temple write something up and put it in the wiki entry for Jediism?
