We are all the sum of our tears. Too little and the ground is not fertile, and nothing can grow there. Too much, the best of us is washed away. -- J. Michael Straczynski, Babylon 5

I once saw an elderly couple cross a 4 lane road on bicycles and the elderly woman fell. I immediately pulled over my car next to the road and ran over to her. Helped her to my car and drove her home while my girlfriend rode the bike and accompanied the elderly man home.
It's not as spectacular as a burning truck but that's the only example I could pull from experience

Samurai define courage as taking "right action". Being courageous is to live when it is right to live and to die only when it is right to die. When looked at this way, we can see that taking action to save the man from the burning truck was "right action" and therefore demanded courageous action from a noble warrior. Had Jamie Foxx been killed in the process of rescuing him it would have been a courageous death, as it would be right to die in the effort to take right action.
Now, actually having the courage to follow through with right action in the face of injury or death is a rare thing. Perhaps Jamie Foxx is a Samurai!

i think people often surprise themselves with how courageous they become when they face a situation where they implicitly understand that its up to them and that its really important that they act
focusing on the risk that the other person is in helps - they need help, they need it now, and youre the only jedi around...
People are complicated.
