What have you people been up this summer? was created by
Just thought it'd be nice to share our experiences about our summers with one another and get to know one another better! So if you feel up for it, leave a message saying something along the lines of what you did, favourite bits, bits you're still looking forward to (if summer hasn't yet ended, ;p), what you learnt... Anything you like really about your summer!
Going first- I've been to Poland with a couple mates which was pretty cool for less than a week, and have since spent almost all my time at the family home. Seen lots of family, some of which I haven't seen for a while and all good fun. Two nephews are growing up quickly which is a bit scary! Best bit was probably when I had my girlfriend over from France here in England. Been to the beach a fair few times, filled a jar with dirt with a spoon (someone should get it here), Sidmouth Folk Festival, Ceidhl dancing, rock climbing, Finding Nemo film, read Way of the Peaceful Warrior, sunburnt (in England ha) but it's been a good summer.
Et Voila! Si tu veux faire un chose comme ca, c'est bien! As short or long as you like, look forward to any good stories,
Have a nice day

Let's see...I was deployed for the start of summer on Camp Lemmonier in Djibouti (Africa) where I did a lot of cool stuff. Got my SCUBA diving certification, swam with whale sharks, climbed dead volcanos, worked my tail to the bone lol. When I got back I played catchup on everything I had been missing. Spending time with the husband, eating, meeting all the people he had spent time with while I was gone, eating...I wrote my own table top role-playing game campaign that has been going very well. Eating... Lol it's amazing how much you miss good food. I spent a lot of time cleaning house. Getting rid of all the things we don't need. Learning how to use my new embroidery program (embroider ALL THETHINGS!). We want out to Vegas with the parents in law for my husband's grandma's birthday. That was a fun road trip. Other than that I'm relearning my job after being gone for so long.

Part of the seduction of most religions is the idea that if you just say the right things and believe really hard, your salvation will be at hand.

The self-confidence of the warrior is not the self-confidence of the average man. The average man seeks certainty in the eyes of the onlooker and calls that self-confidence. The warrior seeks impeccability in his own eyes and calls that humbleness. The average man is hooked to his fellow men, while the warrior is hooked only to infinity.

I spent the last 6 months or so bouncing around Europe and other places! I spent quite a bit of time in Poland...in my off time I went caving, climbing, saw some WWII sites, including Easy Company's battle position in the Ardennes Forest and the ruins of secret tunnel systems near the Czech/Polish border. Tried beers from all over, including most of the Trappist monk monasteries. I ran a half marathon around Żywiec, watched the my plane get buried under snow in Ljubljana, got pulled over and fleeced by the police in Slovakia, watched a sunrise in Talinn while waving to Russia, paid 25 USD equivalent for a coke in Zurich, chased by a wild boar in Lubliniec, walked the river in Luxembourg, partied with DJ Qualls and the Czech mafia in Prague the night before the city flooded, and jumped into the Błędów Desert where Rommel trained his Afrika Korps.
That was during my off time. Except the jump. I tried to make the most of it.
Vusuki I'm curious as to where you visited...Poland is gorgeous in the summer. And Kamizu...who were you attached to in DJ? The HOA can be a tough place.

Reacher- Only two places really in Poland- Krakow and Warsaw and only briefly for two or three days each. I too went to Auschwitz concentration camp which was pretty sobering. But You sound like you've had a pretty exciting summer! However, I can say I paid more for 4 drinks late at night (scammed) than you for your coke. 300 zl, about 75 english pounds for four drinks.. Man, don't get so drunk you can't run away or see the scam coming.. it was education at least! I'd like to go travelling more, hopefully next summer!
It's nice to hear from people thanks, with all sorts of summers!

I've tried to use the summer to relax a little and do less rather than more!
That said, I've just got back from a week singing in Prague and I've also spent time with some people I haven't seen in a while, helped my sister to move, and eaten a lot of ice cream.
