lightsabers can be made by using aqua marine crystal chambers.heated crystal can melt through metal shangai artic spyder3 is a lazer that can cut through wood and is legal to by.but what if jedi were permitted at a certain rank to use a more powerful laser only knights or training

a light saber is not a laser...

laser = light...

is not gonna stop at the tip of your saber, by magic....

light keep going and going....

spider 3 its a 1 watt laser (maybe I'm wrong), but burns, only dark objects, or soft ones...

to cut 1 inch of steel with a laser you need a supercharged laser, and even in that way, is not going to happen like you see a lightsaber cutting in the movie.

if one day lightsaber becomes real, we are 1000 years behind easily

and for sure is not going to be a laser

if someone create a laser that can burn any material in a second... just think, he test it, and there is a beam of light, melting everything it touch forever, buildings, cars, the moon, planets, everything and forever....

Yes, correct. Lightsabers are NOT lasers. If our military forces were to one day master lightsabers, they would be made of the 4th (yes 4th) state, plasma.
Lasers beams never ends, it just keeps going on and on. The problem (well, one problem lol) is that the lightsaber hilt does not have a type of "cut off" point for the plasma blade to rise at a certain length. And, even harder is having the lightsabers that have the 3 crystals with the ability to raise and lower the blade at certain longer lengths to work properly.
It's ok everybody. It'll happen. Someday! SOMEDAY!

They can mechanically control force fields in StarWars with things like deflector shields and tractor beams so I imagine the lightsaber is a similar containment field for the plasma.... though that then raises more questions then answers!!!

It might be more practical to have a solid rod which heats up to red hot through electrical resistance alongs its blade length - it would glow red and burn through light materials. The design could have it loop at the top so both poles are located safely in the hilt but I'd imagine you'd need a lot of juice to run it.

Yea you're right, TONS of juice. Too much probably, to the point that that idea, as good as it really is, would be a lost cause. Another one of the problems with that plan is being able to cool off the hilt. You couldn't. There's no way. It's doubtful that there's any way to cool it off enough to the point that someone would even be able to touch it, let alone grasp it and swing it around.
It bothers me that I am always bringing up so many negative points when comes to bringing a real lightsaber to life. But, I have NO DOUBT it will happen someday.
Very many NCO's in the Army would always say that they are Jedi Knight's. One day, and I have all the faith in the world here, military forces will have lightsabers attached to their belts and they will be getting into duels against their enemies.

"A lightsaber is a fictional weapon in the Star Wars universe, a "laser sword." The lightsaber is the signature weapon of the Jedi order and their Sith counterparts. The lightsaber became the Force-user's tool. There are some variations of the lightsaber that are sometimes use by non-Force-sensitive beings, call the "light rapier". The lightsaber mechanisms are contain within the hilt. High levels of energy generated by a high-output Diatium power cell are unleash through a series of focusing lenses and energizers that convert the energy into plasma. The plasma is project through a set of focusing crystals that lent the blade. The ideal number of crystals is three, though only one is required.

Once focused by the crystals, the plasma is send through a series of field energizers and modulation circuitry within the emitter matrix that further focus it, making it into a coherent beam of energy that's project from the emitter. The blade typically extend about a meter before being arc by the blade containment field back to a negatively charged fissure ringing the emitter, where it's channel back to the power cell by a superconductor, completing the circuit." Our technology is'nt that far. SW Je-daii and Jedi was using standard swords before using lightsaber.

maybe it'll be possible one day, We can't even protect with a field a shuttle from cosmic radiations... Blades made of super-strong material, or with super abilities seems to be more accessible to our level of technology.

Some researchers have made a hand held plasma device. Intended for burning off bacteria, all we need to do is up the power and somehow contain the plasma, LOL, no small task (probably impossible) but I thought I'd post here if of interest to anyone;

The plasma flashlight, presented April 5, in IOP Publishing's Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics is driven by a 12 V battery and doesn't require any external generator or wall power; it also doesn't require any external gas feed or handling system.

Plasma -- the fourth state of matter in addition to solids, liquids and gases -- has previously shown its worth in the medical industry by effectively killing bacteria and viruses on the surface of the skin and in water.

The temperature of the plume of plasma in the experiments was between 20-230C, which is very close to room temperature and therefore prevents any damage to the skin. The device itself is fitted with resistors to stop it heating up and making it safe to touch.
"The device can be easily made and costs less than 100 US dollars to produce. Of course, some miniaturisation and engineering design may be needed to make it more appealing and ready for commercialisation,"
