I really liked John Carter (of Mars) movie. It makes a great analogy for lucid dream work plus the original work was one of the inspirations for Star Wars originally apparently;

Have a look at some of the title used on Mars;
  • Jed (king)
  • Jeddak (emperor)
  • Jeddara (empress)
  • padwar (low ranking officer)

  • You can see lots of familiar imagery in it;

Remember the thread with four pages of book suggestions without one mention of the Hitchhiker's guide?

Well, this is the movie thread with four pages of movie suggestions without one mention of V For Vendetta.

Better to leave questions unanswered than answers unquestioned

I just kind of assumed we were leaving it out because it completely perverted the message of the original, even though it was kinda cool in its own way.

I suggest everyone try Revolver , it's a great action flick about not identifying yourself as your ego, kind of. Not sure if it's "the hero's journey" but he does put other people before his own personal gain.

I'm really surprised nobody has brought up Zatoichi: the blind swordsman series. There must have been at least ten movies of random adventures with Ichi wondering into a town with corrupt samurai, protecting the innocent and cutting down the bad guys. He also moonlit as a masseur and a gambler. Not to mention HE IS BLIND. If the Force is not strong with that man, I don't know who else would be.

The Dragon Ball Saga (Dagon Ball, Z, GT and Super) is one of my all-time favourite TV series, and, despite its violence, I believe has some great Jedi(ish) moments. The entire point of the show is that most of the main characters fight selflessly to protect the innocent and defenceless, and those who are few characters selfish usually go through a massive reform (or get blown up :P ).

Here are a few jedi(ish) moments that I could find on YouTube:

I'd be completely remiss if I didn't mention Disney/Pixar's Brave, and Inside Out. I just finished watching the latter, and there's wonderful subtext about the importance of all of our emotions and how learning to integrate them in a healthy way makes for a more actualized human being. As for Brave, the two main themes that come to mind are following your true calling, and taking responsibility for the effect your actions have on others. Both beautiful films.

I second Inside Out. It is seriously amazing, a real modern myth.

I don't recall if anyone mentioned The Truman Show in this thread, but one would have top be near spiritually dead not to feel the subtext in that one. And I don't mean the stuff about society's obsession with reality TV, but rather with the awakening of the Buddha/Christ/Jedi self from the illusions of the world. I actually just watched it with my grandmother, she had never seen it before and she really enjoyed it; you probably couldn't say that about most Jim Carrey films.
