I do always enjoy the use of this particular style of meme, the Patrick asking a stupid question meme. Patrick Star absolutely kills me some times.

That said, the initial response to it never defended the concept of mayonnaise being a gender. They just said that it was insensitive to make fun of people who were having issues with their gender identity and that's what this meme is doing. Nowhere does she say that mayonnaise should be considered a gender. The follow up responses completely missed the point that the OP was trying to make and just devolved to mocking them which sounds a little familiar. The OP could have made that point clearer if they hadn't gotten so emotional about it, but it's an emotional subject for some people and they have a hard time separating things.

the "mayonnaise as a gender" conversation is completely new to me, i just thought the meme was funny

so i cant comment on it other than that i thought the meme was funny

the video that i posted is about how ridiculous (as in "worthy of ridicule") some of this "gender identity" trend is becoming

one of the reasons that so many young people are so confused is because people who should know better than to play along with this foolishness are playing along with it

otherkin is another great example

a lot of people have real difficulty figuring out who they are and how they want to self express and i am all for being free and even being weird, but if its ridiculous i am all for calling it out as ridiculous

i dont think it does people (especially confused people) any good to pretend that something they are doing isnt stupid when it obviously is

we all need ideals to follow and which we can use to help to shape (or discover) our personal identities

but being a "drag-inotaur-iffin-inx" isnt going to cut it as an ideal to live by
for the simple reason that there is no such thing (i just made it up by blending the names of mythical creature who are themselves blends of other creatures -CLEVER B))

when people base their personal identities on absurdities then the result is - well a whole lot of absurd people

if you really dont want to be mean to people then you should tell them when they are being silly

i do agree with having compassion for those who are trying to discover who they are, and i dont know exactly where the lines should be drawn, but in the video she does give some pretty good examples of people who seem to be way on the wrong side of them

People are complicated.

While I too appreciate humor, memes, and internet culture, I'd just like to also be one to offer a gentle reminder that despite the hilarity of some of these posts or videos, let us be kind in our evaluation of them.

I'm not condoning any type of 'special snowflake' behavior, but instead offering the counterpoint that these individuals may be struggling with their own challenges, and if they do have a mental condition, suffer from past abuse, or just want their voice heard because it hasn't been in the past. Most of the times, acting out or being a 'special snowflake' comes with a hidden reason we're not privy to.

If someone came to me and announced they believed their gender is 'mayonnaise' for instance, I'd want to have a frank discussion on why that is, and see if I can dig a bit deeper to the real reason they feel this way.

I think in our quest to become a more tolerant culture, we've allowed some things to slide or get redefined which perhaps shouldn't be have been.

As far as gender disphoria is concerned, many may believe themselves as having been "born in the wrong body" but my experience is that only the wealthy and privileged have the capacity to do anything about it. Speaking from a biological perspective as well, even if one were to go through treatments or reassignment surgery, they would biologically in terms of chromosomes and internal organs, still be the biological gender they were originally born as.

I don't think that the issue is whether or not the smogasbord of genders exist or not, whether they are valid or not.

The real issue is a sense of entitlement. When people believe that the world has to revolve around their needs, and other people must jump through flaming hoops just to make them feel acknowledged, then you have a problem.

And entitlement is not a problem exclusive to non-binary gender people. Everyone of us may, at one point or another, fall into the bad habit of whining when things don't go our way. The whining may be cathartic, but as a habit it is neither helpful nor does it make for better society.

It's one thing to enjoy equal rights (the right to free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of association, right to life and liberty). But it's quite another to [strike]expect[/strike] demand everyone to agree with your particular lifestyle and worldview. "If it harms none, do what you will"... but don't expect everyone to agree with you.

EDIT: If someone were to tell me their gender is mayonaisse, I would be more than willing to talk to them about it, but if my initial response would be to burst into laughter, I would also expect THEM to understand.
