The Podcast Bank

Thought I'd start a thread for people to share podcasts that they've enjoyed. Think of it like "What are you listening to right now: The Podcast Edition".

Currently there is great content spread across the site forums but I for one, would find it very useful if these could be found in one place!

Please feel free to add to the 'Bank' at anytime but rather than just posting links if you could also cut and paste the podcast description into each post that should help people work out whether they'd like to listen to it. Also please flag anything that has fruity language / subject matter!

In terms of subject matter, "anything goes" but it probably makes sense to mainly focus on those topics most relevant to Jediism: religious experience, comparative religion, spirituality, philosophy, meditation, charity, wellbeing etc (that's not to say that topics such as physical health, martial arts, nutrition, education, sexuality, mental health and self-help wouldn't also be welcomed, for instance).

I'd suggest we keep any further discussion on any particular podcast to other threads and leave this as repository, clear of active discussion.

In Our Time: William James's The Variety of Religious Experience

Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss The Varieties of Religious Experience by William James. For the first time, here was a close-up examination of religion not as a body of beliefs, but as an intimate personal experience. The book laid the ground for a whole new area of study – the psychology of religion – and influenced figures from the psychiatrist Carl Jung to the novelist Aldous Huxley.

Sam Harris speaks to Yuval Noah Harari (author of 'Sapiens' and 'Homo Deus') about Narrative, stories, reality and a bunch of other interesting topics (AI technology, the future, wealth inequality, and meditation):

As a bonus - here is Russell Brand speaking to Yuval on similar topics - but the tone is quite different (sweary and more irreverent!)

Adding a couple of Simon Sinek videos recently posted on the site elsewhere:

Why leaders eat last:
In this in-depth talk, ethnographer and leadership expert Simon Sinek reveals the hidden dynamics that inspire leadership and trust. In biological terms, leaders get the first pick of food and other spoils, but at a cost. When danger is present, the group expects the leader to mitigate all threats even at the expense of their personal well-being. Understanding this deep-seated expectation is the key difference between someone who is just an "authority" versus a true "leader."

Love your work:

This is what Proteus wrote regarding this video:
" it's not necessarily just about work. Replace work with path.

It's very broad in fact, about a wide range of aspects of social living...

Simon Sinek points out things that if they are not relevant and critical to what we are doing here at this temple, I don't know what is.

He talks about demonstrating compassion, what leadership looks like, building trust, and much more.

I strongly believe that if you sincerely care about being a Jedi, this video is VERY important to watch."

Crash Course Philosophy: Existentialism
Length: 8:35
This is a witty, well spoken, and quick paced piece that covers the essential facts and notions about the history and understanding of not only existentialism but essentialism as well, the nature of having a purpose to live, the nature of choice and more. I feel it is a good quick watch for knowing what some of us here in the temple are talking about when we use these terms and make references to certain philosophers mentioned here as well.

Great discussion on the human experience (modern & primitive) and logical explanations as to why people become depressed...
