i am 100% supportive of anyone who wishes to quit smoking, personally, for their own benefit but i'm also highly annoyed that smoking is so highly stigmatized. i can be drunk/high/have sex in public, legally, more places than i'm allowed to smoke, and i think that's ridiculous.

You having sex in public will not adversely effect my health, although it might scar me emotionally :P

My smoking, in responsible environments where there is a reasonable expectation thereof, would not adversely effect your health, either.

"responsible" and "reasonable" are not quantifiable.
here is something that is quantifiable: "Secondhand smoke kills 600,000 worldwide annually
1 in 100 people around the world die from secondhand smoke each year, a new study reveals, and nearly two-thirds of the deaths occur in children." -WHO

I live with two smokers (I don't smoke myself) and have lived with others.

From experience, you can tell someone that likes smoking everything that's going into their body and you can scare them with cancer or emphysema stories until you go hoarse. The simple fact is, unless they want to quit, they won't quit. If they're not sincerely doing it for themselves, they're not going to do it.
The only thing you can really do, is point the way to things that might help if they decide to quit.

I don't have a problem with people smoking, it's their body, their choice, I just don't want it where I have to breathe it (or where their kids are breathing it).

QUESTION YOUR APATHY

Don't worry so much about what you should or shouldn't do. What makes you happy is what makes you happy. One should balance out what they want vs what's more important. In other words, prioritize your wants and needs. Could you live without smoking? Sure. Do you like smoking? By all means. Now study the effects it can have on your body and reflect on if you are willing to accept the effects later down the road. If you are willing to accept them, and you still want to, go for it. Otherwise, if you would be angry with yourself, or disappointed, then stop and do what you feel is right. I smoke as little as possible, but I still enjoy a good cigarette. Especially when I'm in a pensive mood. Take care not to overdo it and you'll be fine.

Smoking is often a large financial commitment as well, so there is more than just health concerns. If you have a family or live with people who have breathing difficulties, even lingering smoke can cause problems. It's really just a matter of pros and cons. And deciding what it best for you and those you love.

This thread gives good reasons to stop smoking but how about advice when you've stopped and withdrawing makes you crazy!!! When concentrating seems impossible? And the mood swings are driving others to seek refuge at friends house..
Keep having these feelings, they come and go, already tripped once and determined to quit for good this time. So any advice from those that have quit?

treat yourself like a small child, out loud, whenever you look at a cigarette.
