Exercise VII: Back Catalogue

Please make a seperate post for each exercise.

ALL responses to these exercises must be posted into and thus be a part of your Jedi training journal. All these exercises have the same basic requirements - spell checking (using your regional settings) - proper and reasonable paragraphing, and sentencing. Thoughtful and considered responses of a reasonable length (usually three paragraphs or so but if stated differently for a particular exercise then please follow that guideline) - do not ask for the answer from Masters or Knights (refusal often offends alt) - Masters and Knights are asked not to respond to these exercises until the time period has elapsed. Each exercise has a 2 week time period from date of posting.

If these are 'old' exercises - that is to say you join/begin training after they were set - you will still get credit for completion's.

INITIATE AND APPRENTICE EXERCISE # 1

(Wednesday, 22 July 2009) Written by Tiamat

Many times within threads we have seen Fr. Jon make the statement of \"thesis, antithesis, and synthesis\". What I would like to see in the journals is how does this statement fit in with Jedi, how did this formulation occur ie: who came up with this formulation, and the area that deals with this formulation. Time frame for this exercise will be one week. Due in journals by July 29, 2009 at midnight. I look forward to what can be found and said. PS: No asking Fr. Jon about this either and Fr. Jon no giving hints. alt MTFBWY

INITIATE AND APPRENTICE EXERCISE # 2

(Wednesday, 29 July 2009) Written by Tiamat

Recently on another site I was engaged in a conversation with someone who is studying the Jedi path. What made this conversation interesting is that this person stated that Free will was not a choice and did not exist so therefore the Jedi should not really worry about it. In this exercise, I want each initiate and apprentice to state whether they believe this statement is true or false and present evidence to support your reasoning. This is to be elaborate, well thought out, and written, no simple answers or short sentences. You may approach other Knights and Masters to help you understand better, but they will not give you the answers. You can use any material available, but also include how this interacts with jediism or does not. Due date AUG 5, 2009 at Midnight.

INITIATE AND APPRENTICE EXERCISE # 3

(Thursday, 06 August 2009) Written by Tiamat

Trials and Tribulations As Jedi and throughout life we face many things that alter, change, or confirm the path in which we walk. It is through these trials or tribulations that we find that which helps define us. In this exercise I want everyone to find a trial or tribulation that has brought them to where they are now as Jedi. This is not a quick assignment nor are there any wrong answers. This is to be lengthy at least 800 words or more and indepth as you want to make it. due date Thursday Aug 13 at midnight.

INITIATE/APPRENTICE EXERCISE # 4

(Thursday, 20 August 2009) Written by Tiamat

We speak of the Jedi path within our introductory and apprenticeships, but what exactly does that mean? When someone asks you about the Jedi path or says Jedi path what comes to mind for you? I want this well thought out, reflected on. No less than 800 words. No short sentences and spell check your grammar before entering into your journal. Each person will have a different answer. If Knights and Masters wish to reply to this also, I ask that you wait until the initiates and apprentices have answered first. Due date: 8/27/09 at midnight. PUT IN JOURNALS NOT IN THIS BLOG. INITIATE/APPRENTICE EXERCISE # 5

(Thursday, 03 September 2009) Written by Tiamat

In the past exercises we have talked about the synthesis theory, trials and tribulations, free will, and what we thought or saw as the Jedi path. In this exercise I would like for you to discuss the connection you have with the Force. It doesn't matter if you are just beginning to feel the connection or feel that you have stronger connection than most. I would also like for you to describe what functions you use to keep this connection and focus. No short answers please be specific. Make replies in journals not to this blog.

INITIATE AND APPRENTICE EXERCISE #6

(Thursday, 10 September 2009) Written by Tiamat

Last exercise I asked those to speak of their connection to the Force. I received a few answers that were well thought out and worked on. On this exercise I would like to see what the thoughts are when they read this one word. \"FORCE\". What comes to mind in relation to Jediism when you see this. Again make this well thought out, NO WEB LINKS i want person thoughts and your ideals not someone elses. Length should be 3 paragraphs, spell checked before placing your journals.

INITIATE AND APPRENTICE EXERCISE #7

Tuesday, 22 September 2009

The past few exercises we have been focusing on the thought process of Jediism. In this exercise I would like to see the physical process of Jediism.

What do I mean by physical? Simply by what means do you as a Jedi keep your body in shape. As jedi we must keep the mind and body in shape. How does this help you on your path as Jedi?

Make this well thought out and at least 4 paragraphs. As usual - please DO NOT respond in this blog - but in your journal - if you are unsure of how to start a journal (assuming you have not done so already) please refer to the front page of the site or contact any available Knight or Master.

Knights and Masters are requested to not reply to this until after the next assignment has been posted.

Initiates/Apprentice Exercise # 8 - Jediism The Cult (By Kana-Seiko Haruki)

Thursday, 08 October 2009

I won't copy n paste the article here - I'll let you all explore the article for yourselves but I'll explain why I have posted this blog.

I have been talking to members who are new here via pm and a couple of times the term 'cult' has been used in reference to Jediism.

But how many people who have used this term actually know what a 'Cult' is ?

So on this brief note the link is as follows ...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult

The exercise is open to all to comment on however - if you are an initiate or apprentice - I'd like you to post your thoughts in your journal on this - the task is to simply discuss why Jediism can be deemed a cult and why it cant be deemed a cult.

I would also like you to discuss the importance of this 'debate' in terms of its relevancy to the real world.

Usual rules apply - check spelling, no short answers (reasonable length and depth of discussion please) and a structured approach - take your time and have a think about this before committing to answers.

Initiates/Apprentices Exercise #9 - Letting Go

Sunday October 25th 2009 By Kana-Seiko Haruki

I'd like you to think about and then discuss (written format) in your journals (as usual do not post responses in this blog) on the following.

We, Force follows, have a saying about 'not dwelling on the past' and to 'let go of the past' but what does this exactly mean to you ?

For example - does it mean one ought to forget EVERYTHING from the past ?

How and or where, does those tie in with 'forgiveness' etc etc.

There is much more beside to think about and its a seemingly small and simple question - but its deep - so as said - think first - consider all the possible connotation of the question you can think of and discuss them fully in your journal.

As normal - please don’t use short answers, use constructed and descriptive paragraphs and where possible, use a spell checker.

Initiates and Apprentices Exercise #10 By Kana-Seiko Haruki

November 21st 2009

Symbolsim of the Sword & The 'Lightsaber'

Righty ladies n gents - ask anyone what comes to mind first when you say 'jedi' and they’ll usually say a lightsaber.

So - if your going to be a ‘Jedi' one of the tools required is to explain this.

So I would like you to firstly research 'the symbolism of the sword' thru history - also I want you to discuss what YOU think the point and purpose of a ‘saber replica or hilt is to us. Is it necessary to have one? discuss your case. Discuss the specific symbolism of the ‘saber in terms of both the real world and fictional jedi. Then think about and discuss the similarities and or differences between the two.

Given this is quite a deep subject - I’m looking for in-depth work - so quantity is a factor (at least 1000 words)

Please also quote all sources properly (weblinks, books inc titles author, page number etc)

You have 1 month for this one.

The usual rules apply, don’t post responses in this blog - put them in your journal, you can ask for help/guidance from a knight or master - Knights and masters are allowed to also participate (but not until the initiates deadline has passed please alt)

Spell checked, paragraphed, constructed etc etc
