Sermon - Are we in this together?

Are we in this together?

In the beginning there was a “big bang” that spewed matter all through the universe or should I say created a universe. Every bit of matter that was there at the big bang is still here today. It is simple physics to know that matter does not go away, it simply changes state. You and I are different collections of that same matter. Adam and Eve are the first beings to form this crude shape known as man and woman (if you believe the metaphor). How we evolved to this state is an unknown truth, but the fact remains we are matter from the big bang. I always wondered if the big bang was in actuality the cell being formed from an immense entity.

In the Christian religions we talk about “The Body of Christ”. If we take this metaphor and say; All living things are a collection of matter assembled in different forms caused by the dynamic creation of the universe. All living things are tied to each other through the energy that resulted from the creation of the universe; this energy is what we could call the Force. Because we are all part of this “body” of energy, the different parts of matter when put together, are the whole “body” of the Force. Therefore, it could be said that we are all different “cells” of the same “body”.

Together we are the Body of the Force, One in being with the Force. We are individual cells of the same body. We are dependent upon each other to maintain the body as a whole. We must work together to ensure the health of the Force body by diligently training our individual body, mind, and souls in the ways of the enlightened. We must help each other so that the body as a whole may grow and flourish.

Kindness and compassion are the means by which we can help each other. Through kindness and compassion we can see through the eyes of others the burdens that they face. With this knowledge we can use our shared experiences to care for each other. When I say we are in this together, I refer to every part of our lives. Every moment we exist, we exist with each other. No man is an island is not just a catch phrase, it is a statement of fact. Not everyone feels they need to have human contact, they don’t realize that they are connected to all others through the Force, and even thought they separate themselves from others, they are as connected to the body of the Force as the proton and neutron are connected to the electron.

We are all in this together my fellow “Cell” mates!

Do unto others as you would have done unto you…because they are you and you are they!

I love the metaphor of us being individual cells of the same body. That's exactly how I see it and a great way to explain how to view the force (IMHO).

I like this sermon. They are good metaphors. My question is: do we need the reassurance of the big bang theory to describe how we came to be here? We are all manifestations of or derived from the Force. I find it almost impossible to comprehend how the universe as we understand it came into being. It is almost like asking what is the origin of the force, too hard... :o

Very well written, I however have a different conceptual belief that the big bang was not a Force driven event, but rather than a matter of circumstance. I have not come to terms with non temporal Force driven events playing themselves out in Temporal concepts such as time and space. But I do believe we are in a Cell.

Ooh, very beautiful. I love your metaphors. I never really thought about that particular connection between Christianity and Jediism, but it seems very clear to me now. Thank you for opening my eyes to a new perspective of life! MTFBWY.

I do however believe in duality and in energies. The Universe does not inherently have a dark or light side. It simply exists. But there are some such as we who have discovered a way to attune ourselves to the Universe. When you are aware of these energies you can choose to create or destroy. Those who chose to destroy invited negativity into our world. I believe that it has been here since then. We create "evil" and only we can banish it. The Universe will not force us. We must open ourselves to the will of the Universe, to the will of the Force, and only then can we heal ourselves. Try doing some random acts of kindness. Small simple things that are helpfull to others, makes someone smile or feel better. Situations will present themselves, you will act kindly and move on. You'll feel better for it.

    • Yes RyuJin well said. I do believe that if they had any real power they would not be so open about themselves in the way that they are. They seem to allow their darkest secrets to unfold like a book. When they speak they do not sound confident. By all appearances they seem to be living out a fantasy but I never assume when I do not know. That is the best policy in my opinion. I am focusing my use of energy working and magic to heal. I want to create and not destroy. I believe that it is a waste of effort to use your abilities, or talents, whatever they may be, to hurt others. When I look at the philosophy of the Sith Academy, and then look at what my philosophy was before, I see that they are similar in essence, but they are both truly pointless. What is the purpose of domination? Conquest of that which already exists, to convert all of reality into your own image, it is a waste of time. What happens when, theoretically, all reality is under your control? Everything would conform with everything else. Everything would be the same but you are at a dead end. Where do you go from there? If you have nothing left to conquer or destroy then your motives have been exhausted. You no longer have a purpose. Creation however, is limitless, and there is no end to creating. All things that are created in this dimension must decay however, but more is created in place of what has departed, and I believe that most life reincarnates. Those who live only for domination or destruction lead an empty life. By remembering that emptiness I am inspired to keep struggling against my own temptations to fall back into that old life of self destruction.

    • May have nothing to do with homosexuality. 18 year old "going out" with a 15 year old is paedophilia: An adult engaging in sexual acts with a child (someone under 16). Some parents are going to be cool with it, gay or hetero, some aren't. Either way, if the law says it isn't cool, don't complain when you get caught. Not sure why they call it "battery" though ?

    • Even though in the early years of my life i was raised a Christian, i could never take the Bible seriously. In my mind there were some good lessons yes but a lot of what i heard stood out as being no different from the fairy tales my mum and dad told me when i was small. Noahs ark for example or Moses parting the Red Sea.. One must bare in mind that while the Bible is in places trying to give a moral lesson (perhaps not in the most straightforward way) large tracts of it, the Old Testament in particular was written at a time when people still believed the Sun was a man in a chariot flying across the sky or thunder was an expression of the gods anger. Much of it was mans early attempts to explain and educate people on how the world and nature worked and even came into being when infact they had no proof. Indeed, even today, we still largely lack a lot of proof for much of this. While there are SOME lessons to be learned, much of it is pure myth. I cannot treat the story of Genesis any more seriously than the story of the Norse creation myth, how the first gods came out of a giants armpit.
