A pharmaceuticals company has launched an investigation after a woman was refused the contraceptive pill because it was against the pharmacist's religion to give it to her.
Janine Deeley was turned away by the female chemist at Lloyds pharmacy in Duke Street, Sheffield, when she went to pick up her routine prescription of the medication.
The mother-of-two was taken into a private room by the employee and told she would not be given the tablets on religious grounds but she could come back the next day when a different pharmacist was working and pick them up.

did it ever occur to her that this woman may have been taking them for health reasons..ie: she couldn't have her tubes tied for some medical reason and didn't want/couldn't handle carrying another baby to term?
BUT - assumptions aside - if she (the pharmacist) cant/wont make up the prescription - she shouldn't be a pharmacist - simple as that - its like saying you cant sell and handle alcohol due to religious reasons whilst working in an off licence - or being against hunting and working in a gun shop.
I posted the link to the story and its worth reading thru the comments left by others - many many valid remarks and the best I think is that most 'chemists' (drug stores) openly sell condoms - so is this pharmacist against selling those as well?
Having a person belief and preferences is one thing - but actually causing harm/suffering to others as a result is totally wrong - its no different tot he middle-ages Catholicism 'join us or die' attitude.
As harsh as this sounds - i hope this person is fired and struck of the register for this.
my 16 year old neice was put on contraceptives a year ago by her doctor, the doctor had mentioned that missing a dose would cause problems, she missed 1 day and when she took one the next day she got sick....that leads to this thought, by refusing to give this woman her prescription the pharmacist risked causing health issues in the customer and thus opened not only herself but her company to lawsuits.
But the above points remain valid and im looking forward to finding out what happens tot his pharmacist.
I wonder if maybe the idiot... err i mean pharmacist thought it was the "Abortion pill" she was asking for. But then I figure if the pharmacist doesn't know the difference between the "Abortion pill" and regular birth control then they are in no position to be even around anything from Aspirin to birth control. no matter how you slice it the pharmacist needs to be fired before she kills someone.
Maybe she was just trying to boost sales of diapers... :)
Just shows you can be educated and well schooled but that doesn't make you smart.
