I think compassion is a perfect example of love's outward expression, ie its action component, but perhaps not an example of unconditional love.

baru wrote: I generally avoid the word "compassion" because its root meaning is "with suffering". It implies that a person is connecting with an other being via their mutual suffering. I generally avoid words that reference the aspects that I am "avoiding". I prefer words that "affirm" my intentions for using the word.

When used in the divine sense of empathy or sympathy, I will use the word compassion.

Latin was a later language than Classical Greek ; there was a lot of Greek influence in Latin.

If I may, give a look to All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks. Her take on the subject is very thorough and quite profound. She might help you shed a bit of light.

Instead of unconditional love perhaps boundless or overflowing love. I have also heard that if you look at other languages, they have multiple words for love. Depending on what kind of love it is.
Also did a Google search for "words for love in different languages". It is an interesting search.
Here is a link that looked interesting.

From the lists one I would consider is Wabi-Sabi – Japanese

This concept has been written about and discussed a lot but essentially this means, “a way of living that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of life and accepting peacefully the natural cycle of growth and decay.”

I don't know if this helps, but its interesting.

Unconditional Love is just ... Love.

Like all things it comes and goes.

The idea of constantly feeling and expressing it is horrifying. It would lose all meaning.

That is an interesting statement.
In contrast, my goal is to radiate love constantly. I feel that the bond of the unified force and field is "love". Since I connect with beings, material and the Force - I am radiating love constantly. My love is complete and eternal radiation of appreciation, care and generosity.

What is horrible about that?

a flower does not question radiating its scent into the world - it just does.

However, I agree that the concept of the terrestrial - human - earthly "love" does feel finite and limited. I can agree that If i radiate love from this standpoint, I would horribly destructive and depleting because that type of love is conditional, relative and subjective.

In this thread, i am exploring the concept of Divine Love or the bonds that bind us or the "unified field theory" kind of connection.
