People, i had a very simple idea/suggestion for this matter:

A open source check in thread.(if you have a better name suggestion feel free to add opinion... i just do not want to write just "coding" because that takes away other interesting open source /contributional activities :) )
With other words just a thread that we can check-in our open-source activities in order just to check in, to share, or collaboration to enstablish :)

Benefits:
It works without stress.
no counsil approval or knight is needed.
It helps us to express ourselves freely
no group is needed.
It helps about the gaming section/matter that troubles me.
No special planning is needed, just a trhead and the meat (us :-) ).

So what do you say? Should we start with this simple solution?

Sic parvis magna.

Hey! Got an idea.

Project:

the thing is in alpha
* a site that lets you to "Surf, Share, Assemble & Save" quotes
* Web Development project in Python/Django
* currently in very raw alpha: quotry.com
* you can access it via login-in-top-panel/red-button-redirect with credentials: L=totjo | P=mtfbwy

planned for beta
* rework of model: now it's very dumb Tag-Quote one-to-many relationship
* making lot's of different (yet consistent) ways to filter and search for quotes
* adding social functionality: likes, favs, sharing, maybe following
* beautifying whole thing so it's consistent in it's look & feel
* making site mobile-friendly (for now it's not)
* making RESTful API, the goal is to make it very simple and very smart
* many other small things

some details
* I am a single owner & designer of code, domain and hosting at this moment
* I will push this through beta till version 1.0 at least, on my own if I have to - I really like and really need this thing.
* It might as well be a shared totjo project. Good quotes are Jedi in their nature - wisdom is their content and focus is their form.

.com thing
* I chose .com domain because it's not quite an organization, more like a tool. It is not meant to earn substantial money.
* It's meant to be quite a 'pro bono' project, but there will be a 'donate' button - maybe it'll pay for hosting & domain & maybe even some 3rd party designer help.
* Please don't consider this a PR post. I'm hoping to find teammates for Jedi Hacking, this whole thing is for joy, skill and a useful product.

tyrant j-D
* I treasure this project, so I will manage the shape of the whole thing anyway.
* If somebody joins, I would very much welcome any good ideas coming with their implementation.
* I'll do my best to not be a Darth Vader kind of manager. j-D

Anybody wants to take part? You can answer here PM me and I'll provide more details. I'll also make a 'shout' on my wall to ref this post.

@Archpoet, were you speaking of participating in quotrY project? If so, it would be an honor and very joyful for me j-D

I am currently having a timeout (~vacation), so I'll need from couple of days to week to get myself in shape.

The repo is private @bitbucket. I'll soon cleanup everything organizational: code, wiki, issues. After that, if somebody is still interested, I'll send links.

LinkedIn - that's me, but profile is a little outdated

@den, I more meant in regard to the overall group.. Jedi Coding Consortium (JCC) thing. ;)
But I'm not opposed to helping with any of the projects, specifically quotrY in this case.

TotJO Programming Thread

Dear Fellow Jedi Dev Brothers & Sisters!

Now this thread is called "TotJO Programming Thread" (thx to our moderator Brothers).

The focus on charity seemed for me too narrow - after all, every Jedi deed is based on ethics of reciprocity. And sometimes we are not ready for charity and need to earn money to have food or to overcome some block or upgrade our skill.

So, if you're willing to share your projects, organize into team or chat on programming related stuff - here is the place.

P.S. All info on me is in my profile. Now I'm doing a beta of site for quotes alongside with day job. I have 3 people with me on this: 2 developers with need of python skill upgrade on live project and one designer with need of practice in web design skill. PM me if you're interested to join.

Wow this is interesting!

I've never done open source projects (on big scales anyway), but I've been programming for years now. My home is C/C++ and Java but I have experiences in other fields as well.

I love this idea, and would be glad to participate ;)

p.s: I'm also an student so my schedule isn't stable. Some weeks I have a lot of free time and some I don't have enough time to scratch my head... =/ Anyways I'm willing to contribute to whatever you have in mind ;)

For now, we haven't found a project that would really ignite everybody.

Here (several posts above) I wrote on my current personal project, quotrY.
