Also fear can the outlit of courge for fear isn't always a negative outlit, though is characterised that way on most things relating to it. Fear is like a coin flip, heads we see what the fear really is and face it or we destroy it. So it's both a primal survial instinct and a destruction tool. Just depends on how you look at it. Okay thats my 2 cents.

very true...Sometimes Fear can be overlooked as a possible allie. Fear can prevent needless injury or danger, by making you rely on your gut feeling.

Alot of societies use fear as a tool for control. Sadly enough some of these pertain to religious beliefs. But as far as self control, where fear doesn't exist just plain common sense would take over.

I think that this topic could be applied to Carl Jungs theories of the Id, the Ego, and the shadow self...
I think one of our biggest fears are ourselves. We all have emtions at times such as fear, anger, envy, etc...
However, all these emotions, at one point in time, were imperitive for human survival...
The thing is, in the way we evolved, these things tend to cause more harm than good.
I think that one thing we can do is first accept that we have these \"darker\" feelings, thoughts and emotions... and embrace the fact that it is a part of us... it is a part of all of our lives, it doesn't make us bad people.
I don't think repressing them our purging them is the answer as much as aknowledging these feelings and accepting that we feel that way.
I think by doing that, we can be honest with ourselves, and not react inapropiately.
Personally, I woud think that the best action would be to acknowledge the emotion, let yourself cool off a bit, put things into perspective... and then decide how to proceed.
Just a thought...

The differences in fear become very obvious in the German language. Fear can be translated in two ways: \"Angst\" or \"Furcht\".

ANGST

1. X thinks that something bad is going to happen.
2. X does not want this to happen.
3. X wants to do something against this.
4. X does not know however what to do.
5. X experiences an inner restlessness.

\"Angst\" is not necessarily caused by something real. Here we can fear something without realy knowing why. People with Demence or Altsheimer experience the paralysing effects of fear, because they do not know how to direct this emotion.

FURCHT

1. X thinks something bad is going to happen.
2. X does not want this to happen.
3. X wants to do something against this.
4. X experiences an inner attentiveness.

\"Furcht\" is an emotion in which X is in the position to defend him-/herself. It deals with self-relevant concepts and not with possibilities. This is why we can talk about \"angst\"neurosis but not \"Furcht\"neurosis, or \"Angst\"dreams and not \"Furcht\"dreams. The fear of hights for example is not an \"Angst\" but a \"Furcht\".

These Emotions \"Furcht\" helps us to remember, describe and explain our behaviour, experiences, judgements and wishes. With \"Furcht\" we can direct our lives in a conscious way. That is why the Germans talk about \"Gottes Furcht!\" (the fear or of God) and not \"Gottes Angst!\"
