RiddleNox, your standards are not too high; they're either paradoxes or gobbledygook. It's well written too. It appears to be complex and specific when in reality it's meaningless. That's not easy to do. There's people running for public office that need this kind of talent. Folks in advertising agencies and lobbyists make a fortune with this ability. This is a real talent. I admire it. This is a compliment. I'm resisting the urge to proclaim you a master manipulator as, under the circumstances, that would be bitterly ironic. (And you say you can't do much with a keyboard.) ;)

By your rules let's say someone is a master. If such an one believes they are a master that means they are not a master and they're delusional. So the only way to be a master is to be one yet not believe something that's true and that others recognize as true. Huzza wazza buzzs what? But that's no good because being a master is unattainable so we can't say someone's a master in the fist place.

Then you don't put faith in this and that but you don't believe in faith. If so why bother to not put faith in ... whatever? If you don't believe in faith you don't have faith in anything. That would have to include your own hypothesis about masters. It can only be accepted on faith; there is no way to scientifically test it.

The king is pregnant. How many yellows are in a mile? Good grammar, perfect spelling and either impossible or no meaning. (I'm remembering Alan Watts.)

In the community of people who believe in God there are no (zero [0]) persons recognized as a Christian. I'm using your rules. Are you good with this?

Here's an example with two large well known populations. The Roman Catholic Church does not recognize Mormon's as Christians. The Mormons say they have the only True church. The Catholics say they have the only True church.

Therefore there are no Christians.

Interesting to say the least.

As I sat reading these posts the first thought that crossed my mind was the fact that too much time spent on debating what is and isn't the term Master.

These words are describing matters of respect. If someone attends a University and earns the degree of a Master's or Ph.D. are we going to debate whether one is or is not considered a, Masters or Doctor of lets say Nursing???

In the Jedi Studies, Master is a title given out of respect and earnest practioning. Just as a Teacher earns the respect of the title of Professor.

We have to respect each other to learn from each other or we never learn anything....

Amen Patty.

We don't mean masters of everything even in the context of our own Jedi masters. Some of us are extremely gifted in martial arts while others are thankful to just be able to kick off their shoes. One might not be able to ride a bicycle (since without at least three wheels there's nothing to keep it from falling down) but be a Zen Master or a master archer.

All real masters know they're perpetual students, with every destination a point of departure.

One day I hope that people will understand the term Master as it is used in the fiction.

For some reason many misunderstand the term master as they do Kung Fu. The see parts of what these words mean but never truly understand the terms.

I still have the deepest respect for my masters that helped me to get to where i am, and I make sure to pass on to my students the true value of the term and meaning of what a Master is.

I could post the real meaning of the term Master as used in the fiction however it would be a shame not to let people come across this defination on their own.
May the force bless you with guidance, strength, love and light.

Therefore there are no Christians.

I live in workable paradoxes, John. ;) The fact that I've described "nothing" means that I am not good with putting into words what my thoughts are. haha. So, no, I'm not good at the keyboard.

But, you're right! You've got it! I'm glad. If somebody believes they are a Master, they are not. If they don't believe they can ever attain Master, then they cannot either. So, being a Master IS impossible. It doesn't exist.

Now, the faith thing is true. I never proclaimed to be right. I never said I was right, either. And, I don't put faith in my own thoughts.

Also... there are no Christians. haha. That's an illusion. (I'll get smacked for that, I'm sure.)

(NOTE: I am sorry for being so "out there" and unorthodox. But, living, workable paradoxes are not too bad. And, while they aren't necessary always, I'm not good at pinpointing exactly what I believe. The more I learn, the less I know. Another workable paradox. So, in my experience, it's not necessary to have Superlative titles. Master. God. Deity. etc. I put these all on the same unattainable and non-understandable pedestal. If it can be conceptualized, it doesn't exist as a possibility. Just like, if you can define God, then he ceases to be God. Therefore a God that exists within our realm doesn't exist. So, we water the term Master down to NOT be superlative... I guess that's ok. Just doesn't mean what it really means though.)

Exactly. And to me, the term cannot be understood.

your lack of understanding does not mean that others dont. in the usage here, master is not a superlative but a title of respect. i think this has been explained to you by others more patient than i several times now.

Having manners is a good thing no matter what your rank or station is here.

"in the usage here". ;) Again, I'm not referring to "here". I'm referring to everything. The whole world. The Universe at large.

i dont suffer from a lack of manners, but of patience. seeing the same argument repeated several times always irks me.

Not thinking, not judging, just observing... Does it really observe? If I make a robot, or more properly an android, and put a brain in it, but only a model of a brain, all the computer chips and motors being in the central cavity, does this brain observe? If I put the wings of a bird on a elephant, can it fly? Did you build the robot to observe? The 'roomba' robot observes, however elementary, its environment so as to be able to vacuum a room... Or would you make one out of a chunk of clay that does not even have the promise of doing any thinking? Quote: The model of me, inside my head, might move and speak, but only as I see myself doing. The brain or mind in that model doesn't actually do anything. You may perceive your brain or mind translating all those signals, from outside of your mind, but when I perceive my mind working, my brain translating signals from my eyes, translating signals from my brain to my mouth, I do it from my thought processing center, inside the same mind. Sure, someone else said 'levels', so run with that...:) Quote: Your description of how you see your brain, are like looking into a glass box, holding a working model of the room you're in. I have that same room, that same glass box, but all it is is a glass box. If i want to see my thoughts I don't look into the box at my computer, I turn away from the box and look at my computer. If I want to see my vision, I look at my tv, not into the glass box at the miniatures of the room. Perhaps I am not being clear enough...:) Imagine you are watching yourself on tv... You dont really know what the actor is going to do, but you watch it... Its like that... Now, look at it like a video game... You control the guy a bit... You make him pickup a stick, however, you didnt make him crouch down, extend his hand, grasp the stick, and straighten back up... All you did, via the controller, was say, 'grab the stick'... • Discussion Thread - SZ's Journal (Last post by Jestor)
    • I will publicly post them here...;) We do not allow others to comment in journals because it gets in the way of the journal being checked... A journal, as we use it here, is not really for discussion... Threads have a way of going off track, and we hope to keep this to a minimum by restricting the posts to the bare minimum... KNights and above, besides the journals owners, are all that is allowed to post in journals...EDIT: and even Knights and above, we ask for it to be done sparingly...;) We delete comments without even reading them... And we have gotten messages from journal owners asking for comments from others to be removed, as well as 'thank you's from them when we beat them to the idea... We cannot allow it in some, and not in others... The discrepancy causes even more work for our already overworked staff... I have answered, what I thought were questions in journals, only to be told publicly, or via PM, that the question was rhetorical, and only there for the student to ask themself... I hope this clears it up for you...:) Any other questions, please feel free to ask.... Also, as this is not about 'Jediism', I have moved it...;) Good luk, and carry on...:)

    • Quote: It's as if there's some type of "attendance quota" that we all have to "meet". There isn't an attendance quota, right?  Not one for you to worry about ;) But when Teaching Masters are away for more than a week or two without letting anyone know, that's the same as if a teacher took a few weeks off school without telling anyone they weren't going to be coming in... And the same as in any walk of life, when people take on positions of responsibility they are making a commitment to being there to actually fulfil the role that they have agreed to do. So whilst no-one is taking a register and checking that attendance doesn't drop below a certain percentage, it is my duty to be here and, when that is not possible, to ensure that you guys know what's going on and when I'll be back! :)
    • Username and why we use them ? (Last post by soya)
    • I have used so many usernames, things relating to old gods, things from different myths, things from D&D and other games, even names that are just random gobblings of letters that seem to fit together, and are pronounceable in English. I've always wanted a different name, a different life. I never used my real name, because it isn't who I was, it was a name given by my father, because he wanted a little him, so he gave me his name, made me to learn his trade, and only allowed me to enjoy his enjoyments. I have been soya since the middle of 2006, a group of friends didn't like the name I had chosen for myself, so they got together and gave me a new name, more indicative of my personality. I still go by my real name in real life, I get asked if I made it up, or where it's from, what it means, why I changed my name (because it couldn't be something my parents gave me!), everything. I am currently attempting to take my name, make it me, really get people to go "Oh, you're ***?" and not speak about my father. In short, I use my username, because I do not feel a connection to my real name, but I'm trying to change that, and may change to my real name here, shortly, in the future.
