I was just reading the wonderfully insightful post on Was it there or do we make it? and a thought popped into my little head (heehee). Here's the thing, We are taught that we have a spirit and/or soul. That our ego is in out human material body, yes? So when we die, technically our ego's die, our soul and/or spirit moves on, or in the way of the Jedi, it rejoins with the Force. So here is the thing, if we rejoin with the force, do we keep our individual spirits or is our energy just sort of mixed up with that of the Forces and all energy that comes and go and comes again? I mean, either way is not a problem for me because i know that even though i might be born into a dozen other bodies or just one (or i may just stay with the Force for who knows how long) i will still be, but i am just curious. I don't think i can ask the question any better then that, but if you need clarrifying i can try and help.

Okay there it is, have fun.
Peace out (heeheehee)

Now that is a difficult question. Wow! Our Doctrine states....
12. Jedi believe in eternal life. We do not become obsessed in mourning those who pass. Grieve as you will but take heart, for the soul and spirit continue in the netherworld of the Living Force.
....what sort of answer you would get I would suppose would depend on which Jedi you ask (Buddhist, Christian, Wiccan...).

well if i may humbly interject some of my beliefs and concepts, the soul is a small peice of the Living Force that splits off into individuality, yet still connected (astrial travelers see this connection as a silver thread connecting them to thier bodies). what you refer to as \"ego\" is the reslts of the soul and the flesh vessel we inhabit trying to come to terms with the reality around us. it is shaped as we grow and experience reality. when we are seperated from our flesh, the confusion and contradiction that is the cause of the ego, is lifted by the knowledge of the absolute truth. the realization of all things at once removes the purpose of the ego and it simply is incorperated into the soul and is part of the individual, part of the lessons learned in this flesh. when we are seperated from out flesh vessels, there are a few things that can happen, choices if you will. one is to rejoin the infinite Stream of the Living Force by following the \"Path\" back to it, commonly seen as the silver thread i refered to earlier in this post, this choice is made possible by the first human soul that split into individuality and remains always in the flesh for all eturnity so this Path remains open. if this choice is made, the individual becomes one with the whole of the Living Force, and the individual soul is no more, but this is also the way new souls are formed, a new split of the Stream of the Living Force.

the next choice is for the soul to find another flesh vessel at the stage of development where the physical brain can hold this consciousness and choose to take the journey of the flesh once again, or regress back in frequency to the state of animal or plant or mineral and experience that existance once again for what ever lesson needed.

another choice is for the soul to remain in the physical relm as a disembodied spirit. this choice can be due to many things such as trauma, or a great need to stay for some unfinished or unresolved issues.

many of these concepts are contained in a post i did entitled \"In The Beginning There Was What?

I'm going to have to agree here. My view on how this is going to come about is going to be wholly different from say Master Dhagons and even Br. Shauns. So i think as far as that goes you really have to reason and decide that for yourself as it is a wholly philosophical question and not one so based in fact. My own view does not even include the concept of reincarnation (Christian Jedi am I) so for me the question becomes only do we stay ourselves or mix with the rest of the Force's energy and I have to say to these, Yes! What an awesome and thought provoking question. I love it.

What if after the body dies you forget who you were and it's just like it was before you were born, then now there's room for a new \"I\" and you wake up and realize that you were God all along, just playing a part for fun, and now you get to play again; knowing that in the end you'll be at the beginning again?

wow..brother john you hit onto the response i would have to give to this question perfectly. My basic belief is we manifest into life so that the Force may know \"something that is not entirely iteself.\" This is not to say that we do not have the Force as our essence but simply we are a manifestation of the Force playing a part or role as you put it untill such time as we have learned and grown to the point of remembering our essence in it's entirety and \"reunite\" with the Force to the point of no sense of separation.

This will come across as being a comedian and in a way it is but

Ive wondered the 'what if' question myself in regard to nuns or monks (of all faiths) who spend their whole life, day in day out - doing what they do in isolation almost waiting to die - I wonder what they think (if they have awareness) when they die and realise 'shit - that was a waste of 70+ years'

Just a thought
