There are strangers in my room.
Questions, and then silence.
"Who are you?" they ask,
and I scream for them to get out,
but no one looks my way.

I wait.

They sit on my chairs and I sigh.
They look straight through me.
I pout and stomp and they ask for more.
"What do you want?"
But they ignore my reply.
"Do you know that you're dead?"
And my whole world collapses.

And thus in anguish Beren paid
for that great doom upon him laid,
the deathless love of Luthien,
too fair for love of mortal Men;
and in his doom was Luthien snared,
the deathless in his dying shared;
and Fate them forged a binding chain
of living love and mortal pain

Hickory-dickory-dock,
The World rolled round th'epoque,
The clock struck One
--but just for fun--
'Twas really but seven o'clock ...

Hickory-dickory-hick,
Has everyone gone thick ?
The clock stikes six,
--a right dodgey fix--
In a World gone mentally sick.

Can you hear the drumbeat,
the rhythm of being and blood,
of humanity's core pulsing,
flowing through our water-wrapped planet
from gravity's union with our distant star?

There is a drumbeat, a tribal dance,
a living, breathing body
that cycles through every atom.
There is a council of all who dwell,
and those who can hear the drumbeat,
they sing.

Never stop singing,
for what is a beat without a melody
but a half-finished masterpiece?

Poetry can be;
Thought provoking and very fun;
Don't you think? Chicken.

Re: Poetry & Prose 23 Jul 2012 23:55 #67952

Does anyone here write stories, I often feel frustrated because I can't get many people to read mine so it would be great to exchange writing with someone...

(apologies if I am hijacking the thread)

Re: Poetry & Prose 24 Jul 2012 00:11 #67953

Actually,

Some time ago, I started a forum thread.

It is called : "From time to time a poem"

It is not "mine" ...

It is for everyone ...

In the end, do we even own the expressions we try to express in poetry?

In my opinion, being a composer and a vocalist... we tend to have a feeling of "ownership" about music and art and words. But, really...

It was pointed out to me elsewhere that the second line actually has 8 syllables

So to preserve my honour I offer this alternative:

Poetry can be;
Thought provoking and joyous;
Don't you think? Chicken.

I was just too distracted by trying to include the word chicken on the 3rd line to notice :P

    • So sorry I didn't sugar coat the bs for you Alex, you stepped up and opened your mouth, and the only time you bother is when I'm voicing my distaste. So sorry I don't have Skype to tell it to your face. You preach of change in the TOTJO, you weren't so keen on it when you were drunk in the shoutbox threatening to leave. I'm done wasting my time and energy on people who look both ways and insist on ignoring the obvious. It doesn't matter, none of it matters...

    • Whyte Horse has it. That's basically what I was saying. But it's just a concept. I don't know if such a thing is valid. On another note, I just started reading this book called Biocentrism and it's really interesting. It talks about how consciousness fits in with the existence of the universe. It's not a spiritually-centered book, just science.

    • Quote: Quote: Quote: Now can we really call mind2 a mind? It doesn't actually do any thinking, it's a mere model. It observes.... Which is how we should being mind1 as well, right? Not thinking, not judging, just observing... Does it really observe? If I make a robot, or more properly an android, and put a brain in it, but only a model of a brain, all the computer chips and motors being in the central cavity, does this brain observe? If I put the wings of a bird on a elephant, can it fly? Did you build the robot to observe? The 'roomba' robot observes, however elementary, its environment so as to be able to vacuum a room... Or would you make one out of a chunk of clay that does not even have the promise of doing any thinking? Quote: The model of me, inside my head, might move and speak, but only as I see myself doing. The brain or mind in that model doesn't actually do anything. You may perceive your brain or mind translating all those signals, from outside of your mind, but when I perceive my mind working, my brain translating signals from my eyes, translating signals from my brain to my mouth, I do it from my thought processing center, inside the same mind. Sure, someone else said 'levels', so run with that...:) Quote: Your description of how you see your brain, are like looking into a glass box, holding a working model of the room you're in. I have that same room, that same glass box, but all it is is a glass box. If i want to see my thoughts I don't look into the box at my computer, I turn away from the box and look at my computer. If I want to see my vision, I look at my tv, not into the glass box at the miniatures of the room. Perhaps I am not being clear enough...:) Imagine you are watching yourself on tv... You dont really know what the actor is going to do, but you watch it... Its like that... Now, look at it like a video game... You control the guy a bit... You make him pickup a stick,however, you didnt make him crouch down, extend his hand, grasp the stick, and straighten back up... All you did, via the controller, was say, 'grab the stick'... Be the controller...
    • Discussion Thread - SZ's Journal (Last post by Jestor)
    • I will publicly post them here...;) We do not allow others to comment in journals because it gets in the way of the journal being checked... A journal, as we use it here, is not really for discussion... Threads have a way of going off track, and we hope to keep this to a minimum by restricting the posts to the bare minimum... KNights and above, besides the journals owners, are all that is allowed to post in journals...EDIT: and even Knights and above, we ask for it to be done sparingly...;) We delete comments without even reading them... And we have gotten messages from journal owners asking for comments from others to be removed, as well as 'thank you's from them when we beat them to the idea... We cannot allow it in some, and not in others... The discrepancy causes even more work for our already overworked staff... I have answered, what I thought were questions in journals, only to be told publicly, or via PM, that the question was rhetorical, and only there for the student to ask themself... I hope this clears it up for you...:) Any other questions, please feel free to ask.... Also, as this is not about 'Jediism', I have moved it...;) Good luk, and carry on...:)
