TOPIC: A message for you all

A message for you all 12 Aug 2012 21:56 #70143

At this very moment, the 30th Olympic Games are coming to a close in the UK, just 37 miles from where I'm typing this. Athletes from across the world have spent the last two weeks competing in a spirit of friendly rivalry, each trying to be as great as they possibly can. As they all pile into the main stadium, every one of them has joy on their faces – a reflection of the blood, sweat and tears that have shaped them all in indescribable ways.

As I watch the solidarity and jubilation of a world of athletes coming together to celebrate doing their best, I have renewed hope for the all of us. When we each try to be all that we can, when we help each other to achieve our goals, when we celebrate our aspirations, our dreams and our attempts to reach them, we are unstoppable.

As a community we can stand shoulder to shoulder to help build a better future. “Be the change you want to see in the world”. I have faith in each and every one of you, I love you with all my heart and I am proud to call myself your brother. Peace be upon you and may the Force be with you all.

The Olympics are a good example of setting the standard as "Better than before". True there are standards within the Olympics but the competitive nature truly brings the competition to the point of "I must do better than I have done" each day those athletes strive to better themselves and in that provide a bit of guidance for us all. I've often talked of standards of excellence within the community. The one standard I think we can all agree on though is one of forward momentum and I think you summed that up very nicely here Master Mark.

They're all competing against each other, and stay in line because the whole thing is controlled by an external entity.

Remove rules and referees and you end up with France vs Spain Basketball. Which is just like football, probably world #1 pass-time.

To me, it just shows how hopeless we really are. Beasts to be tamed.
To be or not to be... Why bother with the question?

And thank you, ren, for the pessimistic view...

I used to compete at a national level in my country. Believe me sport is not what you think it is. I'm not being pessimistic, but realist. Judges who don't see you touch the wall with both your hands when you're in their son's category, unusually high proportion of people suffering from asthma (and legal documentation to prove it)? There is no such thing as friendly competition, only rules and regulations to prevent it from being bloodshed. And that to me is what shows how hopeless we are.

I heard that at one time the Olympics were an amateur competition. Even though I think it takes extreme dedication to devote your life to a sport and reach our Olympics I think it would be much more interesting to see it as it once was. To have people from around the world who aren't professionals, who can't afford to devote 100% of their time to a sport, compete. It would show a better representation of ones country (in my opinion). Plus, how cool would it be to be some plumber, teacher, average school kid and make it into the Olympics? It'd be pretty sweet (not that it's not now, but you know what I mean, right?)
Have fun and remember to smile. :)

Many moons ago, when I were a youngen, we had a sort of Olympics between about 12 schools. It was called Inter-School Sports Day. It was a day of fun, competition and a way to make new friends. It was usually held at the beginning of July and many a summers day was endured with this competitiveness of local schools.

OOHHH back in the day....

The message for me wasn't about the finer details of the sporting practice, or about personal feelings of resentment about past experiences. It was about the fact that for a few hours, nations from across the globe could come together in a spirit of peace and brotherhood/sisterhood to celebrate trying their best to be all that they can. That sort of thing is needed more than ever in this day and age and I think it transcends any personal grievances we may have. Sometimes we just have to put our problems aside and join together.

Only because they are forced to. No political statements are allowed at the olympics. Your peace and hope is artificially created.

(*Ahemyself*) I kind of find it funny when members of the Temple post a "leave of absence" notice. It's as if there's some type of "attendance quota" that we all have to "meet". There isn't an attendance quota, right?

    • Quote: Thank you for responding. This is very tough for me to get through. I feel a lot of guilt over my thoughts and intentions over the past several years. I have never actually harmed anyone though there were times when I would get very angry. I would cast hexes and curses on others. I never found out if I succeeded although there were a couple of occasions where I seem to have. It does not matter if one were to say it was coincidence or if I truly was able to bend the forces of change to my will. The fact of the matter is that I want nothing more to do with that path. I am spiritually sick and I know that deep down I was never truly "evil" so to speak. I can recall that I felt imprisoned and beyond redemption. I was easily manipulated. For now I feel that my destructive nature should be set aside. If there is a way to do good somehow with it, to heal others, or to create, then I know that during this process I will retain some of that. But if that is not a true part of myself then it will depart along with the rest of this negativity. There have been a lot of tears so far. A lot of people go through their entire lives not realizing that there are forces at work, energies that by their nature will corrupt you if you invite them in, and it truly is an internal struggle. I would not wish this upon anyone. I feel that this negative energy is the essence of what some would consider demonic although I do not believe in biblical demons as such. I do however believe in duality and in energies. The Universe does not inherently have a dark or light side. It simply exists. But there are some such as we who have discovered a way to attune ourselves to the Universe. When you are aware of these energies you can choose to create or destroy. Those who chose to destroy invited negativity into our world. I believe that it has been here since then. We create "evil" and only we can banish it. The Universe will not force us. We must open ourselves to the will of the Universe, to the will of the Force, and only then can we heal ourselves. Try doing some random acts of kindness. Small simple things that are helpfull to others, makes someone smile or feel better. Situations will present themselves, you will act kindly and move on. You'll feel better for it.

    • The Sith Academy! (Last post by Alaaric Jensen)
    • Yes RyuJin well said. I do believe that if they had any real power they would not be so open about themselves in the way that they are. They seem to allow their darkest secrets to unfold like a book. When they speak they do not sound confident. By all appearances they seem to be living out a fantasy but I never assume when I do not know. That is the best policy in my opinion. I am focusing my use of energy working and magic to heal. I want to create and not destroy. I believe that it is a waste of effort to use your abilities, or talents, whatever they may be, to hurt others. When I look at the philosophy of the Sith Academy, and then look at what my philosophy was before, I see that they are similar in essence, but they are both truly pointless. What is the purpose of domination? Conquest of that which already exists, to convert all of reality into your own image, it is a waste of time. What happens when, theoretically, all reality is under your control? Everything would conform with everything else. Everything would be the same but you are at a dead end. Where do you go from there? If you have nothing left to conquer or destroy then your motives have been exhausted. You no longer have a purpose. Creation however, is limitless, and there is no end to creating. All things that are created in this dimension must decay however, but more is created in place of what has departed, and I believe that most life reincarnates. Those who live only for domination or destruction lead an empty life. By remembering that emptiness I am inspired to keep struggling against my own temptations to fall back into that old life of self destruction.

    • God vs Ego (Last post by Leandros Von)
    • Quote: One has to remember, there is no such thing as good or evil, its all about power. I think you may have misunderstood the intention of my ramblings MurMur, this was never about God as a deity it was my way of breaking down the differences between the ego brain and true consciousness. I chose to use the mythology as a method of explaining the internal conflict and the transcendence of it. Quote: I think the word "god" leaves a bitter taste in most people's mouths, but in this case, "god" is a word meaning your own, personal "higher self", not a religious god. Thank you Master, I suppose the use of the term "GOD" is very much misrepresented at times, as you have stated what I meant by god is the part of you that is "GOD" (the force), whether the god is good or evil is irrelevant, it still created the ego self and as such is the true spirit and driving force behind the illusion of what we are. Though I also suppose that in using the word god I was talking about the mythical concept of a god that is there for our fragile ego to grasp upon until true enlightenment comes through mythological translation of the holy scriptures.
