No offense to Professor Kaku's point of view, we are still far from a Type 1 Civilization. The Internet, as a Type 1 telephone system, is still in it's infancy (as a networking student, I'm really learning how true this is). Rock n' Roll, as a Type 1 musical culture, can change at any minute, with Dubstep and Skrillex gaining popularity in the underground. We are taking vast steps towards !becoming! a Type 1 civilization, but we are still far from it, because, as Professor Kaku stated, the primary proponent of a Type 1 civilization is the ability to harness planetary energy, either from volcanoes or anything other than the fossil fuels we use today. Nor do we have the ability to change the weather, nor control earthquakes or tsunami's/hurricane's. As I stated before, we are beginning our journey to a Type 1 civilization, but we are far from the actual turning point, which i honestly believe we may see at the end of our lifetimes.
