"Meditation" is a word. Nothing more and nothing less.

"The Tao that can be spoken of is not the Eternal Tao." - Tao Te Ching of Laozi

When I read this I decided not to bother with the rest of the book and went for a walk instead.

Good point! Hahaha. You must have already understood.

I had to read the Tao of Pooh, the Tao Te Ching, Zhuangzi's Outer Chapters, and spend a few years seeking myself to even begin to understand it all.

    • Shadow Being (Last post by ferreire580)
    • Don't do an exorcism unless it is the last and only thing you can do. Exorcisms can turn a run of the mill nuisance, into a full blown life threatening situation. Also take into account that it might be her protector, like a guardian angel of some sort. My uncle has a shadow figure with him that various people who have been to my house, have seen at his door while he sleeps. My uncle has been through war, a lightning strike, and a car crash that would killed him if he hadn't been "pushed by something" (his words). She might have a protector and your best bet is to talk to it, or her talk to it for better results. Don't talk to it like it's a non-being, but rather that it is an entity with feelings and probably good intentions. This "shadow figure" may be a gift, not a curse.
    • God vs Ego (Last post by Leandros Von)
    • I think we are on the same page Raikoutenshi, though I would say the key lies in the separation, you can separate yourself from the angel and the devil, you just can't "understand" how it is done. What I wonder is if in describing the serpent Campbell was talking about the ego, it isn't good or bad it was just necessary for a while. We as humans like the snake have the ability to throw off "life" (the ego) and still survive through true consciousness. The trying to understand thing is more that true consciousness transcends all human thought, it cannot be explained or taught, you can only be given pointers of how to achieve a true state of being by seeking it out within you. letting go of the ego brain is how we come into true being.

    • Peaceful means and the lightsabre (Last post by suliskveteba)
    • Quote: Well, not everyone in the galaxy wants peace in the way Jedi do. As large as the galaxy is, many many people see that violence IS the answer and the Jedi realize this. They use the lightsaber because they know not everyone will be unarmed and there to only talk. This is just my opinion of course. Also, it is a symbol to the Jedi and all who see.it. Franciscan, Dominican, Carmelite Friars Eastern Orthodox Priests Buddhist Monks etc all these groups desire peace, and deal with people who desire violence and they know this, not only do they not carry weapons, but they succeed in bringing peace to others. the symbolisim comment was interesting, but again, we the the TOTJO logo, TOJF logo FA, JS and literally many more which say "Jedi" so the lightsabre isn't really needed in that respect.
    • Is the Bible the Literal Word of God? (Last post by suliskveteba)
    • again, as I have stated in my own biblical thread, the Bible is a dusty old abstract Tome, potentially beautiful and lifechanging, but hardly literally true, in the west with the KJV and NIV atrocities to the translations ( here's to Augustine *raises glass*, oh and Calvin ( who gave his best friend an excruciating death of living incineration)) we can't really say much on the Bible, St Ignatius of Antioch has been metaphorically crucified ( get it?) by protestants for saying the NT is better than OT because the NT has the gospel, life of Christ and his teachings, the core of Christianity.
    • the bible..............*sighs* (Last post by suliskveteba)
    • trying to seperate myself from the previous frustration of impatience that I had when I posted the original post here, the bible is mainly a story book (Old testament), a book with great poetry and symbolism, with beautiful stories and lessons to be learnt, when it isn't a story, it is an abstract form of philosophy or meaning that is supposed to teach you a lesson every time you read it. I am not arguing against the bible, but like philosophy, I was arguing against the reactions of: - Claiming the Bible is pure divine text ( sometimes the claim of "only divine text") - Taking every single word of the Bible as truth or literal meaning both reactions don't hold true to the original meaning or motivation of the Bible.
    • Who would you like to meet? (Last post by Lorian)
    • Quote: Why such angst towards Lucifer? Maybe Lucifer gave him a bad birthday present sometime? ;) On a more serious note, I would personally like to meet the Dalai Lama as he is a man of great wisdom, is very well versed and is knowledgeable. I suppose meeting him could be considered akin to meeting the Pope, as I have heard from friends and other ears that meeting either religious man is both humbling and wonderful. The Dalai Lama also serves as an inspiration to many, as he continues to advocate for a free Tibet despite having the odds stacked against him, so to learn of how he holds such strong resolve in light of such adversity not only intrigues me but also makes me respect the man a great deal more. I'm not overly fond of actors, yet meeting Harrison Ford would be very cool indeed if I was given the chance :D

    • Nature of "the Force" (Light/Dark dicoto... (Last post by Adder)
    • Quote: A comparison i typically use in the Star Wars online roleplaying community i am a part of is to take the colour purple. It is after all a single colour but we of course know that is is made of two different colours, blue and red. It is through either calm, peaceful communion or the use of raw emotion and passion that either one of these sides or colours can then be distinguished and as such felt and communed with. Sometimes I feel like the dichotomy of light and dark is akin to a black and white TV versus a color TV, and it leaves me wondering 'what about the colors!!!'. Purple is almost like an energetic grey in that way. Of course the dichotomy is not of these things, but what they represent. Still, I was looking at the color spectrum and cannot help but think red at one end and purple at the other are very different from light versus dark (with are very much poles apart).... since purple is a combination of the antipole red, plus blue! So I like to see red as standing for passion/sacrifice and at the other end the purple color really is a clash between that red and blue, ie conflict. It could make more sense for purple to represent conflict as it does actual show a higher energy state. So then going all Star Wars (sorry Zenchi) red blades could represent a call for victims to sacrifice on the Sith blade, while blue a call to conflict so it can be settled best by the Jedi way together with green as protective and harmonious midpoint. In which case a color Force dichotomy could be passion/red/giving of oneself to a cause, versus conflict/purple/exhausting resources through competition for a cause. It also aligns well with blood, red is fresh and oxygenated ready for use, while purple is rare and causes tension around it. One of the things I like about dichotomies is that by having two points they automatically create a midpoint. So in this regard I feel like the color version of grey might not be purple like I first thought, but instead green!
    • Slap off your cheeky smile and have a good rant ..... (Last post by Alexandre Orion)
    • LOL ... :cheer: Last week it was Jestor covering the soap box with controvery. Now look ... All things, even equality, considered, you're right, Wescli. And that was sort of what I had "hoped" to get to by this. It isn't clear as to whether or not we're not really all equals, for the story of the carreer in baseball aspirations doesn't imply that shortstop or first baseman could programme a robot to tear up a hill ... We are not all equal in all domains ; that is an evidence. It is unsure whether we have equal potential even in all domains. I'm personally not much of a determinist, but do feel that we have dispositions which render us better at some things than at others. Still ... And S - you are on to something there about the ones who are disappointed when things turn out better. Here in France, we are always listening to the whinings of those who are all salty about things not living down to their expectations. And if one thinks well about it, the Schopenhauerian toad would definitely make ones day better. Toad skin secretes a sort of tryptamine, bufotenin, which acts as a sort of neurotransmitter that is the same or similar as found in some mushrooms and plants. So, by swallowing a toad for breakfast - one would be flying high nicely for a good part of the day. :woohoo: It is this which is reputed to have given us all the faerie tales about princesses kissing toads and they miraculously turn into princely lovers ...
