TOPIC: "God Hates Gays"

Re: "God Hates Gays" 29 Jul 2011 00:27 #40877

According to the WBC website, they state that they don't hate gays, but that god does, and that the bible states that we are to love our neighbors. They believe that the highest form of love is the truth, and that their constant picketing is a sign of their love for the rest of the world (which in a seriousley twisted way sort of makes sense...). So, for a moment, let's venture away from the human attitude towards gays.

Ren,you suggested that god may have created something that he later came to hate/regret. But if he's truly almighty and all knowing, shouldn't he have seen it coming, or have some way of stopping it? You also said that he may have created the things he supposedly hates purely for entertainment, but do you really believe that the god we worship is like that? It seems brutally unfair to me.

RyuJin, isn't the bible completely written by man? As you said, it's become so twisted in the way that it's preached and interpreted, that you can't get the same thing from more than one church. So why do we place our faith in something written and constantly corrupted by man. Is there any piece of god left in the bible? Was god even instrumental in the creation of the bible?

It's because of these things that a thinking, feeling god seems to be a foolish thing to believe in, to me.

Speak for yourself, I don't do any worshipping lol. I place myself in a hypothetical "god exists and is as described by christians". According to the myth, god created humans in his image. We know humans can be cruel, we know god can be cruel. In fact, a lot crueller. Look at the original sin. Humans wanted knowledge, god didn't agree, and when sin was committed he wasn't forgiving at all.extrapolate this into god = parent and humans = children into today's society and you'll find that god would be doing some jail time. So yes it seems very possible that god created us for entertainment and added some drama to make it interesting, instead of cancelling the show after a couple of seasons.
To be or not to be... Why bother with the question?

I agree with this I would assume the human race was very entertaining as viewed from above. So entertaining that we made war, murder, casinos, dog races, boxing arenas, books, movies, W.W.F. other t.v. shows and really everything else to entertain ourselves. I bet through time "God" has had quite a few laughs and crys with what is happening on Earth. I would also assume he really likes to watch "Murder she wrote" or "the golden girls" I bet hes got all the episodes TiVo'ed

But didn't God try canceling the show already? I.e. with the flood of Noah

and for the record I don't believe in a "God" or a "Deity" and by no means was i trying to offend those who do, just saying.

It wasn't cancelled, he probably wanted it to take a new direction and had to kill some characters to stick with one good, small "core" team to build up the script. Similar to how they got rid of Kes on Star Trek Voyager.

ah the answer to this is simple, people need something to believe in. whether it's science, mythology, or whatnot. it is human nature to be self destructive, we need some form of spirituality to set a moral standard from...an ideal to live up to...a means of controlling our nature, and something to believe in gives us this. god, science, the force etc...

as to whether there is any piece of god left in the bible....that depends on whom you ask, if you ask a christian the answer is likely going to be yes, if you ask a non christian the answer would be no...i'm not christian so my answer would be no, but i wasn't present at its creation.

was god instrumental in the creation of the bible....again ask a christian and the answer would be yes, but a non christian would say no...

in the end the most important thing is to be a good person, it doesn't matter what faith you follow as long as you've lived right...live right and you'll go where you belong.

Wow, lots of responses and discussion since I've last been in! In response over all to the mythology of the flood and the varying views of God (like how can he be full of love and yet drown most of the population), and such I will state this:

The Bible was written by man. Supposedly inspired by God. God never outright spoke aloud to anyone (IMO). The authors in the Bible wrote what they believed that God was telling them in their hearts. That is why there are so many contrary verses in it. God didn't cause a great flood (again IMO), but it was a tale to teach a lesson. A myth if you will. No original sin, we aren't punished for Adam's sin, that would be absurd, no loving God would really do that.

To me God is love. He loves everyone, no matter their race, religion, sexuality, etc.

One thing about floods and earthquakes and all that stuff. Ancient people of whatever faith were very quick to scream, "Look! Our God(s) are displeased and punishing us". Modern people tend to do this as well but at least voice of reason can be.. uhhh.. voiced... nowadays.

They were faced with unbelievable things, and can hardly be blamed. One crazy guy boasts about the end of the world in the street for 10 years, then one day fire surges into the sky only to come back as hot rocks. Suddenly that crazy guy doesn't sound so crazy anymore. And there was religion.

    • That is an interesting question and it would all depend on how one chooses to look “Jedi.” If one were to say that Jedi are a singular entity, lacking diversity and one in form and function, then I would suppose a singular structure could suffice. But, I believe that Jedi are as unique and diverse as the people that make the community. Quote: “People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they’re not on your road doesn’t mean they’ve gotten lost.” –Dalai Lama [attachment]

    • Quote: Thank you for responding. This is very tough for me to get through. I feel a lot of guilt over my thoughts and intentions over the past several years. I have never actually harmed anyone though there were times when I would get very angry. I would cast hexes and curses on others. I never found out if I succeeded although there were a couple of occasions where I seem to have. It does not matter if one were to say it was coincidence or if I truly was able to bend the forces of change to my will. The fact of the matter is that I want nothing more to do with that path. I am spiritually sick and I know that deep down I was never truly "evil" so to speak. I can recall that I felt imprisoned and beyond redemption. I was easily manipulated. For now I feel that my destructive nature should be set aside. If there is a way to do good somehow with it, to heal others, or to create, then I know that during this process I will retain some of that. But if that is not a true part of myself then it will depart along with the rest of this negativity. There have been a lot of tears so far. A lot of people go through their entire lives not realizing that there are forces at work, energies that by their nature will corrupt you if you invite them in, and it truly is an internal struggle. I would not wish this upon anyone. I feel that this negative energy is the essence of what some would consider demonic although I do not believe in biblical demons as such. I do however believe in duality and in energies. The Universe does not inherently have a dark or light side. It simply exists. But there are some such as we who have discovered a way to attune ourselves to the Universe. When you are aware of these energies you can choose to create or destroy. Those who chose to destroy invited negativity into our world. I believe that it has been here since then. We create "evil" and only we can banish it. The Universe will not force us. We must open ourselves to the will of the Universe, to the will of the Force, and only then can we heal ourselves. Try doing some random acts of kindness. Small simple things that are helpfull to others, makes someone smile or feel better. Situations will present themselves, you will act kindly and move on. You'll feel better for it.

    • Yes RyuJin well said. I do believe that if they had any real power they would not be so open about themselves in the way that they are. They seem to allow their darkest secrets to unfold like a book. When they speak they do not sound confident. By all appearances they seem to be living out a fantasy but I never assume when I do not know. That is the best policy in my opinion. I am focusing my use of energy working and magic to heal. I want to create and not destroy. I believe that it is a waste of effort to use your abilities, or talents, whatever they may be, to hurt others. When I look at the philosophy of the Sith Academy, and then look at what my philosophy was before, I see that they are similar in essence, but they are both truly pointless. What is the purpose of domination? Conquest of that which already exists, to convert all of reality into your own image, it is a waste of time. What happens when, theoretically, all reality is under your control? Everything would conform with everything else. Everything would be the same but you are at a dead end. Where do you go from there? If you have nothing left to conquer or destroy then your motives have been exhausted. You no longer have a purpose. Creation however, is limitless, and there is no end to creating. All things that are created in this dimension must decay however, but more is created in place of what has departed, and I believe that most life reincarnates. Those who live only for domination or destruction lead an empty life. By remembering that emptiness I am inspired to keep struggling against my own temptations to fall back into that old life of self destruction.

I think you may have misunderstood the intention of my ramblings MurMur, this was never about God as a deity it was my way of breaking down the differences between the ego brain and true consciousness. I chose to use the mythology as a method of explaining the internal conflict and the transcendence of it. Quote: I think the word "god" leaves a bitter taste in most people's mouths, but in this case, "god" is a word meaning your own, personal "higher self", not a religious god. Thank you Master, I suppose the use of the term "GOD" is very much misrepresented at times, as you have stated what I meant by god is the part of you that is "GOD" (the force), whether the god is good or evil is irrelevant, it still created the ego self and as such is the true spirit and driving force behind the illusion of what we are. Though I also suppose that in using the word god I was talking about the mythical concept of a god that is there for our fragile ego to grasp upon until true enlightenment comes through mythological translation of the holy scriptures.
    • Is the Bible the Literal Word of God? (Last post by Azrael)
    • Even though in the early years of my life i was raised a Christian, i could never take the Bible seriously. In my mind there were some good lessons yes but a lot of what i heard stood out as being no different from the fairy tales my mum and dad told me when i was small. Noahs ark for example or Moses parting the Red Sea.. One must bare in mind that while the Bible is in places trying to give a moral lesson (perhaps not in the most straightforward way) large tracts of it, the Old Testament in particular was written at a time when people still believed the Sun was a man in a chariot flying across the sky or thunder was an expression of the gods anger. Much of it was mans early attempts to explain and educate people on how the world and nature worked and even came into being when infact they had no proof. Indeed, even today, we still largely lack a lot of proof for much of this. While there are SOME lessons to be learned, much of it is pure myth. I cannot treat the story of Genesis any more seriously than the story of the Norse creation myth, how the first gods came out of a giants armpit.
