There are two ways to post a message on the forum. You can creating a new topic to share and discuss something of interest, or you can reply to an existing thread created by someone else.

They both utilize the same basic mechanisms so using one means you can generally use the other, though each case does have a specific button link.

1. Creating a New Topic

The first step is to decide where your new topic will go in the forum. The forum has various categories to keep like topics grouped together. Some parts of the forum might be private, depending on your access privileges such as rank.

For example, to make an introduction post as a new member, first find the Introduction part of the forum - it's called "Introduce Yourself" - and then click the button labeled "New Topic."

This takes you to the standardised forum post page where you can put in the topic title of your choosing, like a subject heading, and then compose body of your post.

2. Joining in on an Existing Topic

If you find yourself reading a discussion and you would like to add some of your own thoughts, you have two options: you can either 'Reply Topic' or 'Quote'.

Generally to join a dicussion you would use the reply button, and then fill out the fields as appropriate. You'll see that there are some options, such as adding a picture. For more advanced or curious users there are BB Code menus above the reply content field which can be used to add formatting and links.

Once you've had some practise at these, try to reply using the 'Quote' button instead. This will allow you to reply to specific points or to clearly indicate who you might be addressing with your reply.

This is just a brief overview, but it should help you get started on joining in at the forum... happy posting!!

TOTJO does not and never will redistribute any of your personal information provided as part of your application for membership to third parties unless ordered by a court to do so.

Sensitive parts of the forum, such as Oaths and journals, are not accessible to "visitors" (unregistered users and search engines like Google) to protect your privacy. You are also given controls of what is or is not visible on your profile.

It is important that you understand TOTJO is a website, and as such visible to the world, therefore you should not consider anything you upload, text, image, or video to be in any way private.

Temple Rules

We are a spirit of the law, not a letter of the law, community. We prefer to think of them as guidelines or even just as good manners. Most of these are common sense and simple etiquette, but we have to post them so that there are no excuses for not abiding by them. The guidelines cover all and every section of the site. To be clear, that means the forum, articles, chat rooms or any other official TotJO owned location or function, Facebook, Google+ etc, whether such mention is made or not.

All of these areas are subject to constant monitoring and disciplinary action will be taken at the discretion of the Council.

Any unsatisfactory behaviour is unwelcome and disciplinary action will be taken to address the situation. The rules listed below should cover the most obvious actions but unruly behaviour, whether it be threatening, carrying out some form of online attack, or behaviour deemed grossly innapropriate is a breach of the moral conduct we expect of all people here. We are a Church and you should treat us as such.

Disciplinary action is not something we like enforcing but if necessary we will implement it. This can range from a temporary or permanent account suspension, IP banning and, in the utmost extreme cases where the safety of our site or members is at serious risk, legal action.

When interacting with others always bear in mind RESPECT:

R - take Responsibility for what you say and feel without blaming others
E - use Empathetic listening
S - be Sensitive to differences in communication styles
P - Ponder what you read and feel before you speak
E - Examine your own assumptions and perceptions
C - be Civil in your interactions with others
T - Trust ambiguity, because it can be difficult to communicate meaning

Offensive Language and Swearing (and general abuse of other members)

TotJO is a place for spiritual enlightenment, self discovery, and discussion of many varied and wide ranging topics. Here at TotJO we debate arguments not personalities, and ideas instead of people.

We understand that everyone makes mistakes so it is not simply a case of one breach of the rules and your account is suspended.The people for whom this rule applies are those who are persistent in breaking the guidelines and do so in a flagrant manner, even after unofficial and official warnings.

It demonstrates negative traits in an individual - namely disrespect for fellow users and lack of control of oneself. 'Heat of the moment' is not a viable excuse, for as a Jedi one must possess more control.

So, please think about what you have typed before sending. Show your respect and consideration for your fellow Temple members by simply maintaining the self-restraint to not swear. As it is much easier to control this behaviour when typing than it is in verbal conversation, there really is no acceptable excuse.

Post what you think is acceptable for an 8 year old to read (be it your own child or another) as this is in fact a family, and public, forum after all. If in doubt, leave it out.

Please note also that swearing is not the only way to offend. One can be just as demeaning and derogatory without resorting to swear words. These cases are equally inappropriate and are covered under the same regulation on the forum.

Links & Linking

Blatant spam will be deleted if it is found on the site (with the possibility of your account being blocked).

If you’re unsure about the suitability of a link then please ask a senior member (Knight or higher) for advice. If the post, or material, could be considered 'mature' then please make this clear in the title (eg. 'WARNING 18 RATED). However, blatant pornography will be deleted.

Please use the appropriate forum when linking material. If you want to post a funny video you can use the Humour sub-forum. The Miscellaneous Forum is considered an "anything goes" area.

If you wish to post a link to your own site or a sales site then get permission from a Councillor.

There really is no limit on the number of links you can post, however generally the material linked to is the property of the original artist. While it may very well communicate your feelings or thoughts, continued linking and abuse of the ability is frowned upon. If it gets excessive enough we may ask you to refrain from making links.

Here are some rules of thumb to abide by: if you think it could offend then it probably will, or if you think whether or not you would be happy for an 8 year old child (your own or a relative etc) to see/hear the material then don’t post it. This is a family and public forum so please keep this in mind.

Advertising

We do not allow people to post any sort of for-profit advertising on the website, be it in signatures, on a forum post, or otherwise. This includes any requests for donations or similar.

TotJO cannot be, and doesn't wish to be, held accountable for services offered by other websites that are not affiliated with TotJO but are advertised on on our forum or other owned official services.

If you wish to provide advertising of any sort please contact a member of the Council.

Stealth Advertising (Member Poaching etc)

Similarly to unsolicited links we do not tolerate the activity some resort to in order to increase membership of their own site, be this by using our private messaging system, the forum itself, the Shout! box or chat function.

TotJO cannot be held responsible (liable etc) for the content of websites to which links are found on the forum. Additionally neither is a link to another website a sign of approval or endorsement of its content by TotJO or its membership.

If you wish to provide advertising of any sort please contact a member of the Council.

Usernames

Please do not use ranks as part of your username. We do not allow usernames with titles in them such as 'Darth', 'Knight', 'Lord', 'Master' etc simply because such names can and do cause confusion with those who have genuinely earned the ranks within our temple.

The avatar box displays your appropriate rank and you can edit your signature box to display the same information or whatever you wish.

Multiple Accounts

The simple rule is one account per member. There is no point, need, or reason for anyone (except appropriate administrators) to have more than one account with which to access this site.

Members found to have more than one account will be asked which name they wish to keep and the other account(s) will be locked from further usage. If you have an unusual situation, for example sharing a connection or single computer, then please contact one of the Council members for help with this.

If you have an account that has been (for example) temporarily locked for disciplinary reasons and another account is being used or has been setup in order to 'get around' that action, then all accounts will have a permanent suspension placed upon them effective immediately. This can include bans to that user's IP address.

In the immortal words of our founder, “Membership is a privilege not a right” or in the not so immortal words of grump Grand Master Kana Seiko Haruki: 'If you don't like the way we do things here - you don't have to stay.'

Journals

Journals are strictly for Jedi training and the only person who is to post in a journal is the journal's creator. Knights and Masters are the exception to this and we have good reason for not posting within such journals too often. The whole point of said journals is to enable potential Teaching Masters (be they Knights or Masters) to look at prospective apprentices work and make informed and frankly important decisions. They are not a source of 'socialising' as such; you can do that in chat or off topic elsewhere.

Name Changes

Your username can be changed but it must be for a good reason and not “cos I feel like it”. If a username change is required please contact the Membership Affairs Officer. If you do have a name change then please post this information in the general section of the forum.

We have thousands of members and the administrators cannot be expected to remember who is who if they keep changing names; it causes confusion and disassociation with members and their journals.

Teaching

While we appreciate the knowledge that members of the Jedi Community have, we unfortunately cannot allow those Community members to join our Temple with the intention of teaching their own material without having gone through TotJO training at a minimum.

We like to get to know people before we allow them to start offering any sort of training to other members of the site so we would ask that you reach the rank of Knight before you offer your teaching services. We like to think of it as you getting to know the sort of people and the sort of place you will be teaching in before you begin.

However, we are always open to additional topics and ways in which the things we do teach may be improved. While not all suggestions will be implemented, if you have suggestions please contact either your Training Master or a Councillor.

Spam

We do not appreciate spam posts on our website. Spam could consist of many things such as blatant advertising of services under an account made purely for that purpose. Spam can also vary from persistent posting of a singular topic to posts that cannot be understood.

In any event the Council or one of their representatives will contact the individual and explain the situation. Clear and unacceptable violations may result in permanent account suspension.

We do not allow specific hateful, derogatory or otherwise uncivil and unwarranted behaviour, or Sith or Anti-Jedi spam posts on our forum.

Mental health discussions

The Temple of the Jedi Order is a religious order. Its members (irrespective of rank) do not function as mental health practitioners and are not trained to handle a mental health crisis.
We strongly encourage those experiencing mental health challenges to seek the professional help of a mental health provider in their local community rather than utilizing the Temple for something that is beyond its scope. Using the Temple as an alternative to professional mental health services:
-Obligates members of the Temple to engage in conversations for which they have no training
-Distracts from the actual purpose of the Temple
-Puts an undue burden on the community
Therefore, in order to maintain the Temple community spaces and scope, the following conversation topics are prohibited:
-Discussions about suicide or suicidal ideation
-Discussions about engaging in self-harm
-Discussions which encourage potentially hazardous delusions.
The Clergy are here to provide limited support with these things including providing information on appropriate resources, but other members may not be consulted and are not obligated to engage in these sorts of conversations. This includes both discussions on the official Discord and in the forums.
The consequences of engaging in such conversations in public and/ or with members who are not Clergy will be:

2. Restricted access to study only
3. Removal

Registering on the website makes you a Guest. A Temple Member is a legally recognised Jedi of Temple of the Jedi Order. You can only advance through TotJO's ranking system if you are a Temple Member. You do not have to be a Temple Member to participate in discussion or training.

Temple Members here fulfill the following criteria:

A belief in the Force. The Force resides within you, surrounds you and flows through you.
Acceptance of our teachings and Doctrine. These serve as spiritual guidance for Jedi. You may hold other spiritual convictions along with being a Jedi.
A completed Membership Application. To file a membership application, you must be registered at TOTJO for 30 days and also please complete Lesson 2 of the IP and then speak to Rex via PM

Any Membership Applications from Minors (those under 18) will be deleted.

You are strongly encouraged to read this short article on How to use this Website.

While your rank bar is Guest you will be unable to reply to threads in the Jediism sub-forum. There is an Open Forum for everyone to have discussions in which can be used until your membership application is approved and your rank bar changed to Temple Member.

If you choose to join TotJO then great! From here on out it’s all about learning and commitment. We suggest you introduce yourself and join in with the discussions on the forum, which will also help us get to know you. What is Jediism

Jediism is the religion of those who regard their Jedi practice as a religious vocation. Jedi observe a metaphysical entity called the Force and often practice meditation. Jedi beliefs at this Temple are outlined by our Doctrine and developed through participation in our training programmes.

The Temple is welcoming and you do not need to be religious, or even a Jedi, to accept our Doctrine or participate in our training programmes or on our forum.

What is TotJO

Temple of the Jedi Order (TotJO) is a legally recognized Jedi Church and ministry of Jediism. While our focus as an organization is on Jedi religious practice, our doors are open to everyone and participation with us does not require Jedi faith.

We are a group of individuals coming together in a community to promote goodwill, understanding, compassion and serenity. We pursue a spiritual and human awareness so we may serve the world.

Here are some things TotJO is not: we are not a role-playing site, we do not teach mystical powers or how to build lightsabers, we are not a dedicated Star Wars fan site, we are not affiliated with George Lucas or Disney and we are not for people who just want to wear a badge reading "I'm a Jedi".

There are many Jedi communities across the internet with a great variety of beliefs, customs and policies. As a community we will do our best to address your concerns and take on board your views, but no one community may offer you exactly what you are looking for. If you would feel more comfortable elsewhere maybe one of the other Jedi Communities would correspond to your requirements more.

What Does the TotJO Symbol(TM) Stand For?

1. The Jedi Code (outer 5 point star)
2. The 16 Teachings (inner 16 point star)
3. The interdependence of Light and Dark

The TotJO symbol (above) is owned by TotJO. People are free to use it, but we ask that it is not used to misrepresent our organization. If the symbol is used in some piece of work then we would appreciate the appropriate citation to be made.

If possible please contact a member of the Council before use to ensure no issues arise.

Other TotJO Web Locations

TotJO has an official presence on Facebook and Twitter. There is also a Discord group, as well as an unofficial "shout box" on hangouts, however the TotJO organization cannot be held accountable for actions in unofficial TotJO groups.

These locations are operated by TotJO volunteers and can provide useful information such as times when the website might be offline.

There is also an Offline Activities sub-forum which includes details of Jedi gatherings run by both TotJO and the wider Jedi Community.

Special Interest Groups

The Special Interest Groups (SIGs) were optional classifications some chose to identify with. Those can still be accessed in the Intersectional section of the forum but are now largely obsolete. The SIGs have no effect on rank or status within the Temple.

There were five SIGs: Abrahamic, Eastern, Pagan, Science, and Philosophy.

How to Join TotJO

Jedi here fulfill the following criteria:

A belief in the Force. The Force resides within you, surrounds you and flows through you.

DO NOT APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP UNLESS YOU READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS - EVERYONE BEGINS AS A GUEST - Apply for a new account here - Register A New Account
1) Have you been a Guest here for at least 30 days (have registered an account at least 30 days ago)?
2) Have you completed Lesson 2 of the IP and posted the lessons in your journal?
IF YOU CAN ANSWER YES TO THE ABOVE 2 QUESTIONS THEN YOU MAY APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP.
HAVE YOU IGNORED THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS? If not, good for you! PM RosalynJ for an application. Please include in your PM: 1) your username 2) confirmation that you have had a site account for 30 days 3) a link to your journal with Lesson 2 of the IP completed. You will not receive a link if you do not meet the criteria of 2) and 3). General queries can be posted on the forum here.

I am under 18 years of age

The Temple does not accept membership or create guest accounts for anyone under the age of 18 on the date of their application. The reasons for this policy can be found here.

What if I want to wait before committing myself

There is no requirement for you to submit a Membership Application to participate in discussion or training. In fact you do not even have to be an active participant in Jediism to partake in the discussions held here. However, please remember that you can only apply for membership once you have completed the first two lessons of the Initiate Programme and posted them in your journal.

I have filled out the Membership Application, why hasn't my rank changed

Rank changes are not automatic, because of this please bear with us as they are normally processed in batches during the week.

If you have not had an account on the site for 30 days and/or not completed lesson 2 of the Initiate Programme then your application will not be accepted. Please ensure you meet this criteria before you apply.

If you feel that your rank has not been changed and you have met the above criteria, please send Rosalyn J a Private Message (PM) to ensure they are aware of the situation and can address it.

Should there be a problem with your Membership Application preventing your rank from being changed, you will be notified of the issue so that it can be addressed.

Membership Oaths

The Simple Oath is a non-mandatory Oath of dedication to the Jedi path.

The Solemn Vow is taken by Apprentices when they become Jedi Knights and binds them to the Jedi path for life.

The Oath of Office is taken by TotJO staff for each position they hold.

The Oath of Confidence is taken by Ordained Clergy persons.

Member in Good Standing

A Member in Good Standing is someone who has filled out and taken a valid Membership Application and who has not been excommunicated by TotJO for any reason.

Guests and Visitors

A Guest is a registered website user who has not had their Membership Application processed. A Guest is not a member of TotJO. While your Rank Bar is Guest you will be unable to reply to threads in the Jediism sub-forum. There is an Open Forum for everyone to have discussions in.

A Visitor is an unregistered user, someone viewing the forum without logging in.

Most sections of the forum cannot be viewed without logging in.

How to begin training

The first part of training is the Initiate Programme (IP). The IP can be found under the 'Studies' tab in the menu bar.

You do not have to be a Temple member to begin training.

Please do not post "I want a Master"; we first like to get to know you and teach some background training.

The IP team consists of a group of voulnteer Apprentices who provide assistance to the guests who are working on the Initiate Programme (IP). You can request an IP Sponsor who will be available to answer your questions, provide feedback, and ensure that your completed IP journal is ready for the Knights to check. While they will not challenge your opinions or beliefs, they will help guide you as you explore your own personal philosophy and thought process. Ranking Structure

You can identify the ranks of members by the Rank Bar which can be found underneath their profile picture.

These are the types of ranking in the Order:

A Status is related to the rights and responsibilities (some legal) a member has.

A Rank is related to the amount of study that has been accomplished.

An Office is a specific organizational position held by a person.

A Clerical Rank is the position within the Clergy.

Apprenticeship

The Apprenticeship is a personal one-on-one mentorship with a senior member who is there to help guide the Apprentice into becoming a fully-fledged Jedi Knight.

An Apprentice is an Initiate who has been taken on by a Teaching Master and is receiving personal teaching and guidance. The Training Master will teach that person until Knighthood.

An Initiate must be at least 18 years old before being considered for an apprenticeship.

The Degree Scheme

The Degree Scheme helps individuals develop their understanding of their Jedi path. There are three separate levels of Degree:

Associate Degree of Divinity (A.Div) - required for Knight rank

Bachelor Degree of Divinity (B.Div) - required for Senior Knight rank

Doctorate Degree of Divinity (D.Div) - honourary

The Degree is not accredited.

The Clergy deal specifically with the spiritual well-being of the Temple, entrusted with helping people along their Jedi journeys.

The Synod is a clerical body that oversees the Clergy. The Synod facilitates, administrates and organizes the Clergy by providing direction and implementing changes and updates. The Synod is subject to the authority and decisions of the Council.

How to join the Clergy

All applicants must be the rank of Initiate and at least eighteen (18) years of age.

The Seminary is the section of TotJO that deals with clerical training. To join the Clergy you should first contact the Assistant Pastor for the Seminary. You will then be interviewed by one or more members of the Synod and, if successful, invited to join the Seminary.

Temporary Minister Licence

There is no such thing as a temporary minister license. For a serious emergency and for grave cause, being licensed as an extraordinary minister is possible.

The TotJO Council is our General Management as well as the Supreme Court to act and decide on appeals. The Council is meant to provide a sense of direction without inhibiting the latitude and trust each Master, Knight or member deserves.

It is a rare occurrence for complaints to be made, however, we at TotJO treat any complaint very seriously and no one is beyond disciplinary action. Please contact a Security Officer if you wish to make a complaint.

Academic cheating, plagerisim, using AI essay generators, or apps such as but not limited to chat gpt is strictly prohibited when completing lessons. Anyone doing any of the above with have their journal deleted and be subject to a ban.

Privacy Settings

The Temple does not and never will redistribute any of the personal information provided as part of your application for membership to third parties unless ordered by a court to do so.

Sensitive parts of the forum, such as Oaths and Journals, are not accessible to "Visitors" and search engines. You have control over what is or is not visible on your profile. There are additional, mostly administrative, forums which can only be seen by certain Officers or ranked members.

As a Church, any posts made on the forums become part of our records and we have the right to keep those records. If you have any concerns about posts containing private or sensitive information and you wish to be deleted, please contact a Councillor.

Posts can be edited up to one hour after posting or after a post has been edited ; if you make a post and wait 59 minutes and then edit it; the timer is reset and you now have another hour in which to make changes, and so on.

As a general rule whatever is written on the Temple forums is written in ink and cannot or will not be erased.

Funding and Merchandise

As a non-profit church, the Temple is primarily funded through donations. There are other sources of income such as merchandise and fundraising.

Currently, nearly all funding is used in maintaining the website which is how all future funding will be used unless clearly stated otherwise. If someone makes a donation they can earmark that donation for a specific purpose or project of their choosing.

Donations are only managed by one individual and cannot be used to 'buy' loyalty or advancement in ranks.
